Arthur, from Clearwater, Nebraska, was inducted into the Army on July 24, 1942, at Fort Crook, Nebraska.  He was assigned to the 545 MP Escort Guard Company at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  He served in the Aleutian Islands from 1942 until August 24, 1943.  He departed for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater on November 24, 1943 and arrived back in the U S on January 221, 1945.  He received the Good Conduct Medal, Carbine Sharpshooter Award, Bayonet Expert Rifle Marksman Award.  He was discharged from the service on April 27, 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  He has been married 47 years to Helen Schnoor and they have lived on the same farm for those years.  They have five sons.
