Mary E. Emerson joined the service in April 1942 as a nurse.  She served a year at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then was sent to Australia and later to New Guinea.  She returned to the US in 1945 and was discharged in July 1946.  She married Alonzo Olson in 1954 and they lived on a farm near Newman Grove, Nebraska.
