Ruth L. Emerson enlisted in the Naval Reserve in January 1943.  She attended boot camp and attended yeoman school in Iowa.  She was sent to Ottumwa, Iowa, Naval Station and served until 1944 when she was discharged.  She and Clarence O. Johnson were married in California.
