Verlon Furstenau was inducted into the Army on  February 24, 1945 and received his training in the Infantry in Texas and at Fort Lewis in the engineers.  On September 28, 1945 he was shipped to Hawaii and then to Manila in the Philippines.  He was discharged in September 1946.  Verlon married Nadene Peterson of Neligh and they had two children.  Verlon and Nadene farmed east of Neligh from 1947 to 1983 when they retired.
