DEAN "LEFTY" BECKWITH

Services for Dean "Lefty" BECKWITH, 84, O’Neill, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Biglin’s Morturary. The Rev. Jim GILMORE will officiate with graveside rites at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 3-9 p.m. and Wednesday at the mortuary. He died Saturday, November 2, 1991, at St Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. The son of Fred and Irene (PALMER) BECKWITH was born March 11, 1907 in Antelope County. Mr BECKWITH played semi-professional baseball and was a pitcher from 1927 to 1933. He was involved with the Rushville and Tekamah town teams, the York State League and the Sioux Falls Canaries. He was married to Nona BRESSLER on May 24, 1937, at Nevinville, Iowa. He was a rancher until 1955, when he purchased the Gambles Store in Tekamah. He operated the store until 1959 when he returned to the O’Neill area to farm. He later planted trees for the Soil Conservation service in Holt, Rock and Brown Counties for 28 years. Survivors include his wife, son, Gary of Hazen, North Dakota and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

IRENE PALMER BECKWITH

The body of Mrs Fred BECKWITH was brought to the Oakdale Cemetery for burial Wednesday, February 1, 1933 from near Chambers. Oakdale people will remember her as Irene PALMER. She died in January 1933.

Kenneth BECKWTIH

The funeral of little Kenneth Beckwith who was killed in a tornado near Chambers last week was held in Oakdale last Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Rev. H McEwan, pastor of the Oakdale Presbyterian church conducted the services. Edith, Rex and Leon Beckwith, sister and brothers of Kenneth, Mrs A Warner of Oakdale, an aunt, and a number of young friends accompanied the remains from Emmet. The funeral was largely attended. Kenneth Beckwith, son of Mr and Mrs Fred E Beckwith, was born at Neligh, Nebraska October 7, 1903 and died October 9, 1913, aged 10 years and 2 days. He was a bright, lovable little fellow and his untimely death was a severe shock to the family and the cause of grief to friends. To the bereaved family the Sentinel conveys the sincere sympathy of old neighbors, friends and acquaintances.
