ALGERNON T BICKFORD

Algernon T. BICKFORD 18 Oct 1872- 30 Apr 1955 Allie BICKFORD, 81, taken by death; rites held Tuesday Allie BICKFORD, 81, died Saturday at the Tilden hospital. He was taken to the hospital last Tuesday after he suffered a stroke. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Oakdale Methodist Church with the Rev. Orin WATSON, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs. E.O. TAVENER and Mrs. George DAUGHHETEE sang The Old Rugged Cross and The Lord is my Sheperd. They were accompanied by Mrs. RAYMOND, organist. Pallbearers were W.B. BRITTIAN, Earl MCNARE, T. H. HAYES, Willis SLOCUM, John SHARPLES and Glen THOMAS. Obituary Alger T. BICKFORD was born October 18, 1872, at Cherokee, Iowa. After a brief illness he passed away April 30, 1955, at the Tilden hospital at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 13 days. At the age of 10, in 1882, he moved to Nebraska with his parents. He resided in or near Oakdale until his death. On March 8, 1899, he was united in marriage to Nettie B. NIES. To this union were born four children. Being a farmer most of his life, Mr. BICKFORD loved being out of doors up to the time he became ill. He was a kind and patient father and loved his clfildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mr. Bickford is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hilda CARNES of Omaha, Mrs. Gladys MOON of Neligh and Mrs. Eva HANSON of Naper; seven sisters; two brothers; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a number of other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 22, 1936. and a son Donald on March 5, 1953. The Oakdale Sentinel. 5 May 1955

EDWIN ALFAIS BICKFORD

Edwin Alfais BICKFORD 3 Feb 1849- 2 Jan 1927 Obituary Edwin Alfais BICKFORD was bom near Augusta, Me Feb 3, 1844(1849). His parents died when he was a small lad of 9 years. He was taken to Minnesota where he was raised to manhood by an aunt, Emily BOWEN. He went to Cherokee, Iowa and engaged in farming, later coming to Albion, Nebr., where he fanned for several years. He was manied Nov. 16, 1882 to Hattie FOLTZ at Neligh by Judge Robert WILSON. They lived in the vi11age of Oakdale a short time and moved to a farm three miles north of Oakdale in 1893 where he has since resided. His wife preceeded him in death July 21, 1924. Four sons, and seven daughters remain to moum his death. At the time of his death he was in Oakdale at the home of his eldest son. His children were with him and all that could be done for his comfort was faithfully performed by them. He declared himself ready to leave this earth. Since November 1922 he has been a semi-invalid, having suffered a stroke of paralysis, he gradually failed sine that time, until death mercifully came at 11 o'clock Jan. 2, 1927 to relieve him of his sufferings. The children are as the following: Mae GRANDALL, Billings, Montana; Lowell M. of Ewing, Nebr.; Alger and William of Oakdale, Rowland L. of Casper Wyo.; Ethytle LORENZEN, Neligh; Mildred FALLESEN, Edythe LORENSEN of Ncligh; Amanda ANDERSON of Oakdale; Thelma WILSON of Williard, Mo., and Miss Elsie of Lincoln, Nebr. Twenty-eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren moum for their grandfather. Funeral sevices were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. BARCH, assisted by Rev. KAUFFROUTH officiating. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Oakdale Sentinel, 7 Jan 1927

HARRIET CATHERINE FOLTZ BICKFORD

Harriet Catherine FOLTZ was born in Polk, Illinois, November 5, 1865 and departed this life at 2:40 a.m. July 22, 1924. In early infancy she came with her parents to Iowa where they remained for about fifteen years when they moved to Oakdale, Nebraska. Soon after this the deceased was married to Mr E. A. BICKFORD at Neligh on November 16, 1882. Not long after their marriage the young people moved on a farm north of Oakdale where they have resided almost continuously. God blessed their home with sons and daughters as follows, Algernon, of Oakdale, a step son; Mrs May GRANDALL, Billings, Montana, Lowell of Ewing, William of Oakdale, Rolland of Casper, Wyoming, the mistresses, Edythe and Ethyle LORENZON, and Mildred FALLESON of Neligh. Mrs Amanda HENDERSON of Oakdale, Mrs Thelma WILSON of Ashby and Elsie of Oakdale. The deceased was reared in the Dunkard Church now known as the Church of the Brethren, had an experience of salvation and was a lovable and patient mother. While she had been sick for about five years it was not until last September that members of the family thought her failing in any noticeable degree. On July 11 she went to the Hospital for surgical work from which she did not recover. It was during her last hours that she left some very comforting testimony to her family about the palace made ready for her and was satisfied to go, leaving her love to her friends, and requesting that they should not weep tears of sorrow for her but rather tears of joy. Beside her husband, sons, and daughters and other relatives, also 22 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren with many others who were her friends. The services were held in the Methodist Church of Oakdale, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. L. MEYERS, assisted by Rev. HILL of the Presbyterian Church and the interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery in the family lot.

JEANETTE BELLE NIES BICKFORD

Nettie Belle NIES was born August 10, 1877, in Dakota County, Nebraska, and departed this life September 22, 1936, at her daughter's home in Pilger, Nebraska, aged fifty-nine years, one month, and twelve days. At the age of one year she came with her parents to Antelope County and settled on a farm two and one half miles north of Oakdale where she resided until grown. She was united in marriage on March 8, 1899, to Alger BICKFORD of Oakdale. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Hilda CARNES of Pilger, Mrs. Gladys MOON, Mrs. Eva HUNTER, and Donald of Oakdale. Mrs. BICKFORD was the ideal home maker with the weltare of her loved ones always foremost in her nind. During her lingering illness she was always thoughtful of others, bearing her suffering with patience. Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her departure thirteen grandchildren, tlree sisters; Mrs. Mary TERWILLIGER of Wakefield, Mrs. Julia TRUBE of Plainview, Mrs. D.C. WILSON of Oakdale and a host of' friends. Her father, mother, and three brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services conducted by Guy DUNNING assisted by E. L. PETERSON were held Friday afternoon, September 25, at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 at the Methodist Church. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
