BENETIA T BLORE BUMP

Benetia T BLORE was born May 23, 1861 in Gallipolis, Ohio and passed away July 20, 1932. At the age of 18 she came with her parents to Nance County and settled at Genoa. She was married to Nelson J BUMP there in 1880, the wedding being the first to take place in either Genoa or Nance County. Mr and Mrs BUMP were among the early homesteaders in Boone County, near Albion, where they lived until 1900 when they moved to Oakdale. Mrs BUMP lived here until eight years ago when she went to Norfolk to make her home with a daughter, Mrs Cecile NESBIT. For some time prior to her death Mrs BUMP had been in failing health. She had been confined to bed for a year. Mrs BUMP joined the Methodist Episcopal Church when a child and was an ardent worker in the Degree of Honor for thirty years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs NESBIT of Norfolk and Mrs Alta SCHAEFER of Scottsbluff, four sisters, Mrs Minnie SMITH and Mrs Eliza DAVIS of Butte, MT, Mrs Charles SINNETT, Seattle, and Mrs Ida GRAY, Hullett, WY, one brother, C. W. BLORE, Seattle; two sons preceded Mrs BUMP in death. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church here and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

NELSON J BUMP

N J BUMP was born in Council Bluffs, IA, October 14, 1857 and came to Nebraska about 1875 locating on a farm near Columbus. Here he met Mrs Banta BLORE to whom he was afterwards married. They settled on a farm near Genoa, later they moved to Albion where they remained sixteen years when they went to South Dakota remaining there about five years. Later they lived in different places for periods of time and came to Oakdale twenty-five years ago. To Mr and Mrs BUMP were born four children, two boys and two girls, the boys dying in infancy. Mr BUMP has been engaged in the livery business, dealing in cattle and horses also. He was associated with Mr DILL in the meat business for fourteen years. The deceased was injured in the great hail storm of July 16, 1920 and has not been well since, passing away at his home, September 18, 1924 about 3 a.m., being 64 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was always a busy man and had just finished painting his house a short time before the end came. He was taken away suddenly, having been up town the day before his demise and seemed to be as well as usual. While he was not a member of the Church, not having had ecclesiastical training, he was a good citizen, a helpful neighbor, a loving husband and kind father. Close relatives that remain are his wife, and two daughters, Mrs Celca NESBIT and Mrs Alta SCHAFFER, both of Norfolk and one brother of Scenic, SD. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, September 21, conducted by Rev. C. L. MEYERS and the interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.
