AUGUST HANS CARSTENSEN

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Church of Christ for August CARSTENSEN with interment in the Oakdale Cemetery. August Hans CARSTENSEN was born December 19, 1895 to Gothard and Maria CARSTENSEN on the farm nine miles north of Oakdale and died at his home April 7, 1962, at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 9 days. He grew to manhood in the Dutch Hollow community, where he attended country school. He also attended York Business College. On January 1, 1918 he married Opal NORWOOD and to this union one son was born. Survivors are his wife, one son, Edwin, of Rochester, New York, four grandchildren, three brothers, Lorenz of Santa Clara, California, Herman of Omaha, Harold of Oakdale, three sisters, Mrs William DARLINGTON of Neligh, Mrs Anna ZIMMER of Salway, Minnesota, and Marie CARSTENSEN of Eugene, Oregon and several nieces and nephews.

HAROLD PETER CARSTENSEN

Abridged: Funeral services were held Monday, May 19 at the Presbyterian Church at Elgin for Harold P CARSTENSEN of Neligh. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Harold Peter CARSTENSEN, son of Gothard and Marie THOMSEN CARSTENSEN was born August 27, 1907 at Neligh and died May 16, 1975 at the Tilden Community Hospital. He attended rural school until the fourth grade when the family moved to Neligh. He graduated from Neligh High School in 1926 and attended the University of Nebraska for one year. On February 11, 1931, he was married to Wanda Leone HOLMES at Elgin. They farmed east of Neligh until 1941 when they purchased a farm south of Oakdale in the Star community. To this union two sons were born. Mrs CARSTENSEN died September 8, 1967. On January 12, 1971 he was married to Louise STOTT KEELER at Norfolk and they resided in Neligh. Survivors include his widow, Louis, two sons, Caryl of Neligh and Dale of Los Alamos, NM, three grandchildren, Debbie, Dianne, and Denise of Neligh, one stepdaughter, Mrs Vernadine LUND of Plainview, one brother, Lorenz of Saratoga, CA, three sisters, Agatha BERRY of Neligh, Ann ZIMMER of Solway, MN and Marie of Eugene, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two brothers.

OPAL CARSTENSEN

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) February 8, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Oakdale for Mrs Opal CARSTENSEN of Oakdale. Mr Alvin SCHWARTING will officiate at the service and burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs CARSTENSEN died February 5, 1973 at Rochester, New York where she was staying at the home of her son.

Roger N. CARSTENSEN

Funeral services for Dr. Roger N. Carstensen, 75, of Athens, Ga., were held February 24 at First Christian Church in Athens. Dr. Fred Draddock and the Rev. Ray Austin officiated. Cremation will be private at a later time. Roger N. Carstensen, son of Lorenz and Wilda (Norwood) Carstensen, was born April 1, 1920, east of Neligh. He attended old District 32, known as Dutch Hollow School, attended two years at Neligh and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1936. He was a member of the Neligh Church of Christ. He moved to Oregon when he was 15 and earned degrees from Northwest Christian College, the University of Oregon, Phillips University and Vanderbilt University. Dr. Carstensen and his family moved to Georgia in 1966 when he became president of the Christian College of Georgia. Since 1978, he had been president of the Mission for Biblical Literacy and was also editor of the journal, "Biblical Literacy Today." Dr. Carstensen addressed many congregations on Bible literacy, authored a number of books and had led many tours to Israel, Greece and Russia. He conducted Biblical teaching sessions on television and a story hour. He was a memeber of the First Christian Church of Athens where he was an elder. Dr. Carstensen died Thursday, Febr. 22. Survivors include his wife, Maretta of 67 Gail Dr., Athens, Ga 30606; four daughters, Karen Norris of Salt Lake City, Karel Eastman of Tenafly, N.J., Connie Carstensen of Athens and Deborah Carstensen of Denver; two sons, Roger L. Carstensen of Athens and Phillip Carstensen of Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother, Stanley Carstensen of Medford, Ore.; two sisters, Leona Webley of Coos Bay, Ore., and Madgel Sanford of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and two great

grandchildren.

WANDA LEONE HOLMES CARSTENSEN

Funeral services were conducted Monday September 11 at the Elgin Presbyterian Church for Mrs Harold P CARSTENSEN of Oakdale. The Rev. Homer HOEWING assisted by the Rev. K. Lowell GAITHER officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Wanda Leone CARSTENSEN, daughter of Elmer and Rena Barnes HOLMES, was born June 3, 1911 at Oakdale and died September 8, 1967 at the Tilden Community Hospital. She grew to womanhood in the Oakdale community and received her education in the Sunshine Mount Air and District 119 rural schools and the Oakdale Public Schools. On February 11, 1931, at the Methodist parsonage in Elgin, she was united in marriage to Harold Peter CARSTENSEN and to this union two sons were born. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Elgin, Presbyterian Ladies Aid, Anchors and Oars, Star Ladies Aid and the Star Women’s Club. Survivors include her husband, parents of Oakdale, two sons, Caryl of Neligh and Dale of Lincoln, three granddaughters, one brother, Roy HOLMES of Norfolk, two sisters, Mrs Majol WINGATE of Tilden and Mrs LaRose huntsman, Naval Communication Station, Morocco.
