Barbara Karen (HANSEN) CHILDS

Funeral services for Barbara Karen Childs, 59, of Oakdale, were held Friday, April 16, at the Oakdale Church of Christ, Alvin Schwarting officiating. Burial was made in the Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery with arrangements by Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home of Tilden. Barbara Karen Hansen, daughter of Alvin and Marjorie (Tinsley) Hansen was born December 17, 1939 at Elgin. She attended Neligh High School, graduating in 1957. On March 22, 1957, she married Richard E Childs at Yankton, SD. They made their home on a farm south of Oakdale. Mrs Childs was a nurse’s aid at Antelope Memorial Hospital and also provided home health care. She was a member of the Church of Christ and served as church organist. Mrs Childs died Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at Antelope Memorial Hospital. Preceding her in death were her parents, and a daughter, Norma Elaine Childs. Surviving include her husband, a son and his wife, Kenneth Dean and Lyla Jean Childs of Dix, four daughters, Carla Childs of Alliance, Glenda and her husband, Denis Davis of Gering, Wanda and her husband, David Worcester of Hill City, KS and Brenda Childs of Oakdale, a sister, Joan Majerus of Loretto and 14 grandchildren.

Death Call Little Girl - Jesse Pearl CHILDS

Death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Childs last Saturday and took from their midst the ten-year-old daughter, Jessie Pearl after a two weeks with diphtheria. Despite that human skill could do she passed to her reward us childhood was budding into girlhood. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. J. Bell. Interment was made in the Odd-Fellows cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Childs in their sad bereavement.

Lewis CHILDS Succumbs at age 87

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18, 1962, at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Tilden for Lewis E. Childs of Norfolk. Rev. R.P. Boyer and Rev. Bradford Crane officiated. Honorary pallbearers were W.W. Eickhoff, John Murphy, Hans Bossard, Herman Marks, Claude Wingate of Norfolk, and Bert Hall of Neligh. Active pallbearers were Paul Hofacker, Leslie Springer, Roy Larson, Gwyn Galyen, Frank Ritter and Emil Zurcher. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Marshall Mortuary was in charge of arrangement. Mr. Lewis E. Childs, son of the late Edwin Valentine and Inez Isabelle Childs, was born in Lake Township, Fairbault Count, Wells, Minnesota on September 7, 1874. He was one of 11 children. All others preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Olive Shenshew of Tilden, March 4, 1903. To this union was born two sons: Walter E. Childs, Norfolk and Dewey L. Childs, Tilden: five daughters: Miss Grace Margaret Childs, Mrs. Ralph Fluent and Mrs. Harold Marks, all of Norfolk: Mrs. Paul Reznicek of Garden, Calif. Pearl Jesse CHILDS preceded her father in death Dec. 4, 1921; and his wife, Olive on December 2, 1952. Five grandchildren: Duane, Gloria, Allen, Judy and Sharon: and two great grandchildren survive. Mr. Childs was converted and baptized 47 years ago and united with the First Baptist Church of Tilden. He was an active member holding various offices in the church through the years. On August 10, 1956, he suffered a stroke and spent 31 days in the hospital He was able to return home being an invalid since that time. Mr. Childs was a resident of Antelope County for many years, holding various offices in Burnett Township. He was always a farmer and into the land poured his labors, love and hopes. His advice to people was, "Don't lose faith." This had helped him in times of trouble and discouragement and helped keep his faith in God. He loved to visit for he said, "Old friends seem like brothers." After suffering a stroke he passed away suddenly Sunday, July 15, 1962 at the Lady of Lourdes hospital in Norfolk at 5:30 p.m. He will long be remembered by his countless friends and neighbors.


 

Mrs. CHILDS Passes Away in Hospital

Funeral services Friday at Tilden Baptist Church

Mrs. L. E. Childs, 68, who lived for many years southwest of Tilden, passed away about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Tilden Community Hospital, where she had been a patient for 31 days after suffering a broken hip. Mrs. Childs was apparently improving and passed away due to a heart condition. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. at the Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. J. C. Hoggart, officiating. Burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Marshall Mortuary from 3:00 until 9:00 on Wednesday and Thursday. Survivors include her husbands, two sons, Dewey and Walter, and four daughters, Grace Childs, Mrs. Ralph Fluent, Mrs. Harold Marks and Mrs. Paul Reznicek also other relatives.
