ARCHER DANA CLINGMAN

Abridged: Archer Dana CLINGMAN was born January 6, 1878, at Long Grove County, Illinois and departed life August 21, 1935 at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska. Arch, as he was better known, came to Oakdale when but a boy of four with his parents. In Oakdale he attended school, grew to manhood and spent his life. On June 26, 1901 he was united in marriage to Maud WARNER. He is survived by his wife, one sister, Nellie of Oakdale, on brother, James A of Van Tassel, Wyoming; two aunts, Mrs W. H. HALL of Creighton and Miss Tillie ARCHER of Los Angeles, California, two uncles, W. D. CLINGMAN of Cotati, California and George S CLINGMAN of Oakdale; and many nieces and nephews. As a boy he helped in the Sentinel office. He also helped his father, Henry CLINGMAN, a carpenter, and later he and his brother, James, worked at the trade together. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ELIVA STUART CLINGMAN

The wife of Henry CLINGMAN, died this Friday morning, January 26, 1900 after a short but severe illness of lung fever. The funeral will be held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. after which she will be laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery.

GEORGE S. CLINGMAN

George S. CLINGMAN, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel CLINGMAN was born March 11, 1870, in Lake County, Illinois, and passed from this life May 9, 1946, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 28 days, at the Bass Memorial Hospital in Tilden. He was the last of his immediate family. His parents, three brothers and five sisters have preceded him in death. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

After completing the course of Oakdale Public School, where he was an honor student, he worked in the local printing offices. Later he became a partner with his father who was the first publisher of the "Oakdale Sentinel," a local weekly paper. In earlier years he greatly enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting all through the upper Elkhorn Valley. He was interested in the wild life of this section and kept very interesting and accurate accounts of his experiences. He kept weather records for the government for over fifty years. His last work of raising bees and the production of honey was most interesting to him, at which he often worked beyond his endurance. Although of a retiring nature he appreciated friendliness shown him, and will be greatly missed by those who really knew and loved him. Services were held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of the Marshall Funeral Home at Tilden with Rev. Clarence SMITH officiating. The burial was in the family lot at Oakdale.

HENRY CLINGMAN

Abridged: Henry CLINGMAN, oldest son of Mr and Mrs S. CLINGMAN was born MARCH 2, 1846 in Union County, Pennsylvania and died at Oakdale, July 10, 1907, age 61 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He resided at Long Grove, Lake County, Illinois until 36 years old. On December 26, 1871, he was married to Ethelinda R BARNES of Long Grove. In 1882, he, wife and three children moved to Oakdale. She died on January 15, 1885. On September 1892, he married Elvira STUART, died January 26, 1900.

A six month old child of Mr and Mrs James A. CLINGMAN died Sunday night, August 12, 1906 and was buried Tuesday in the Oakdale Cemetery.

NELLIE ANN CLINGMAN

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 31 at 2 p.m. at the Tilden mortuary for Miss Nellie Ann CLINGMAN with the Rev. Connie BUEHLER officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Gwyn WINGATE, Ralph KINNAN, Howard HAILE, Bud OFE, Lewis WAGNER and Earl MCNARE serving as pallbearers. Miss Nellie Ann CLINGMAN was born April 11, 1873 at Long Grove, Illinois and died Saturday, January 28, 1967 at the Tilden Community Hospital. In 1882 her parents moved to Oakdale from Illinois had she had made Oakdale her home ever since. She taught many years in the elementary grades in the Oakdale Public School. Survivors are one sister-in-law, Mrs James CLINGMAN, three nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.


Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-October 26, 1889

SAMUEL CLINGMAN

Died on Sunday, October 20, 1889, at his residence in Oakdale, of valvular disease of the heart, Samuel CLINGMAN, publisher of The Sentinel, after an illness of about five months. Samuel CLINGMAN was born in West Buffalo, Pennsylvania, February 21, 1822. He was married there to Miss Susannah SILER, on April 7, 1844. He came to Oakdale in 1881. He was converted in early manhood at the age of 20 years. He then joined the Evangelical Church and ever remained an active, faithful member. The funeral services were held on October 22 at the Evangelical Church of Oakdale, Rev. C. STOCK preaching from Rev. 14:13, and Rev. T. THOMPSON and Rev. D. C. WINSHIP assisting. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.
