DeVern Arthur CUNNINGHAM

Abridged: Funeral services were held Saturday for DeVern Arthur Cunningham at the Methodist Church. Military honors were conducted at the graveside in the Oakdale Cemetery. DeVern Arthur Cunningham was born in Pierce County, Nebraska on March 10, 1895 and passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill on July 30, 1953 as a result of a train-auto accident. He was the seventh child of Virgil and Mary Cunningham. He was united in marriage to Ireta J Obershaw on December 24, 1920. To this union was born one daughter, Lois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who died in January 1945, and by two sisters and one brother. He lived most of life in Madison and Antelope Counties. He served in World War I in France. He leaves to mourn his departure, his daughter, Lois, (Mrs Herbert James) of Neligh, four brothers, Eldon of Reno, NV, Homer of Spokane, WA, Albert of Truth or Consequences, NM and Leslie of Meadow Grove, two sisters, Ora of Reno, NV and Lettie of Truth or Consequences, NM, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

IRETA J OBERSHAW CUNNINGHAM

The sudden death of Mrs. D. A. Cunningham, 47, was a shock to this community. Mrs. Cunningham died at her hoe here early Saturday morning following a stroke, which she suffered shortly before 5 o’clock Friday afternoon. Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. W. Smith. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Ireta J. OBERSHAW was born near Oakdale, Nebraska, on March 26, 1897. She grew to womanhood in the Oakdale community. She passed away at her home in Oakdale on January 6, 1945, at the age of 47 years, 9 months and 11 days. On December 24, 1920, she was married to Devern CUNNINGHAM, also of Oakdale. To this union as born one daughter, Lois CUNNINGHAM. Mourning her death are her husband and daughter, Lois, a senior in the Oakdale high school; three brothers, Henry OBERSHAW of Renton, WA, Oscar and Chester OBERSHAW of Oakdale, 2 sisters, Miss Etta OBERSHAW, Oakdale, Mrs. Harry J. SCOTT of Washington, PA; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her father, mother and one brother preceded her in death.
