Jennie Anna (COWIN ) DILL

Funeral services for Mrs. J. A. Dill, who passed away at her home Thursday after a lingering illness, were conducted by Elder Olson of Norfolk at the Methodist church here Sunday afternoon. Internment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs. Jennie Anna Dill was born Jennie Anna COWIN, July 15, 1871, on a farm northeast of Oakdale, Nebraska. This farm is still occupied by close relatives. She passed to her rest January 4, 1951, at her home in Oakdale, having spent her entire nearly eighty years in this vicinity. She was the first child of John and Almyra Cowin and knew all the hardships and deprivations of pioneer life. These facts had a tendency to make her of a loving, protective disposition and she had her highest joy in serving others. Her greatest pleasure in life was giving, from truth filled literature and loving service to her family, church and community, down to any child from her cracker box, fruit bowl or cookie jar. On September 26, 1891, she was married to John A. Dill at Oakdale. To this union were born three daughters. She was baptized at an early age, becoming a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and served it in official capacities as a teacher for many years. In her later years failing health caused her to remain at home but she never forgot her God, Norfolk her love for souls. She had several hobbies, the principal one being her flowers. She became quite an authority on them and every nook and corner was aglow with them as long as she was able to care for them. A bouquet from her garden brightened many a home. Her parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded Mrs. Dill in death. She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, Weaver Cowin, her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Theo Crosier of Elgin and Mrs. Arthur Holmes of Berrien Springs, Mich. One daughter, Mrs. Jesse Bowman, preceded her in death only ten days before. Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, also a host of friends and distant relatives are left the memory of a sweet Christian life.
