Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-February 16, 1923

HENRY W DUNHAM

Abridged: Henry W DUNHAM was born near Owego, Tioga County, New York, December 5, 1850 and departed this life at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, February 16, 1923, being 72 years, 2 months and 11 days. In early boyhood he removed to Darlington, Wisconsin, working at odd jobs. Later he was regularly employed as a clerk in a store. He finally engaged in business for himself and was successful. On September 27, 1877 he was united in marriage to Jessie Fremont ATWOOD at Shullsburg, Wisconsin. The lived in Darlington until 1886 when they came to Nebraska. Shortly after arriving, DUNHAM purchased the BECKWITH store. Three daughters were born to Mr and Mrs DUNHAM, Inez and Helen survives them. Susie having died May 25, 1921. Mrs DUNHAM departed this life March 30, 1920. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 18, at the M. E. Church. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

JESSIE FREMONT ATWOOD DUNHAM

Jessie Fremont ATWOOD, daughter of Joshua ATWOOD and Susan LOW ATWOOD, was born at Hazel Green, Wisconsin., March 31, 1856. She moved when a child to Shullsberg, Wisconsin, where on September 27, 1877, she was united in marriage to Henry W. DUNHAM. They went at once to Darlington, Wisconsin, where they resided until May 1886 when they came to Oakdale, which, since that time, has been their home. At this place she united with the Presbyterian Church, of which she remained a faithful member till called to her eternal reward. She was a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., Class of 1875. She was a member of the D. A. R., a charter member of the Degree of Honor and Rebekah lodges. She passed peacefully away at her home on Tuesday morning, March 30, 1920, after a lingering illness borne with great patience and Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, three daughters, Suzie DUNHAM, Inez DUNHAM, and Helen DUNHAM, and one brother and one sister, and another sister preceded her onthe long journey but three weeks previous. Her loving presence and sunny smile will be greatly missed in her home. A woman has gone from our midst, one whose influence will be greatly missed in our community. To the sorrowing family is extended sympathy from all.

Susie DUNHAM

Following a brief illness Susie DUNHAM died during Wednesday night, May 26, 1921. The end came peacefully and without suffering. Funeral services were held this afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. L. Myers, and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Susie DUNHAM, daughter of Henry W. DUNHAM and Jessie ATWOOD DUNHAM, was born at Darlington, Wisconsin, November 10, 1878, and came to Oakdale with her parents in May 1889 and since that date has resided here. She is survived by her father and two sisters, Inez DUNHAM and Helen DUNHAM. Her mother died March 30, 1920.
