Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-October 10, 1903

EARL

It is reported that the infant son of Mr and Mrs Charles EARL, born October 1, 1903, died when only a few days old on October 7, 1903. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Jane Elizabeth (NELSON) EARL

Jane Elizabeth Nelson was born in Liverpool, England, February 4, 1833. In early childhood she accompanied her widowed mother to Canada and on September 15, 1853 at Bowmanville, Ontario, she was united in marriage to Robert J Earl. In 1879 the family came to the United States, locating at Wisner where they remained until 1883 when they came to Neligh. Here they resided until 1900 when failing health compelled Mr. and Mrs Earl to give up active pursuits and they transferred their home to that of their daughter, Mrs A. Elwood. Mr Earl died April 22, 1910. The deceased had been a member of the Episcopal Church all her life as are other living members of the family. Mrs Earl was a gentlewoman and retained many of the customs peculiar to the land of her birth. She was loved by all who knew her. The surviving children are W. H. Earl and Mrs W. A Elwood of Oakdale, Mrs Agnes O’Day of Portland, Oregon, C. W. Earl of Sioux City, Iowa, One son, Albert E died several years ago. After many years of invalidism and following a severe illness of several weeks Mrs Jane Elizabeth Earl died Sunday, December 4, 1921 at the home of her daughter, Mrs W A Elwood. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ROBERT J EARL

Robert J EARL was born near Hamilton, Ontario January 13, 1831 and died at Oakdale, Nebraska April 22, 1910. When about 18 years old, he went to Toronto and entered the mercantile business. In 1851 he went to Bowmanville, Ontario and in 1853 married Jane E. NELSON of Bowmanville. In 1879 he moved to Wisner, Nebraska and then to Antelope County in 1883, locating at Neligh. In 1900 he moved to Oakdale. His health had been failing for several years. He leaves a wife and four children; William H of Oakdale, Mrs Agnes L. O’DAY of Portland, Oregon, Francis A ELWOOD of Oakdale and Charles W of Ewing. Funeral services were held at the home of W. A. ELWOOD, April 23, 1910, conducted by Rev. R. G. HAMILTON, rector of St Peters Episcopal Church of Neligh. The remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery.
