ALEDA E. EGGLESTON

Funeral services for Aleda E. EGGLESTON, 89, were held at 10:30 am Thursday, August 8, 1991, at Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin with the Rev. Raymond AVIDANO, United Methodist Pastor, officiating. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. She died at the Neligh Nursing Center on August 5. Serving as pallbearers were Don SELTING, Art THUNKER, Ray HEITHOFF, Jim MCNALLY, Fred CAPIER and Don GENRICH. The daughter of Oliver F. and Elizabeth (HORN) EGGLESTON, she was born at Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 3, 1901. In 1902 the family returned to their homestead east of Elgin where she grew up to womanhood, attended a rural school and graduated from Elgin high-school in 1920. She attended Peru State College and Wayne State College and entered the teaching profession, which she pursued for more than 45 years. She retired from teaching in 1972 from Elgin public school. She had also taught at Glenrock and Wheatland, Wyoming; Scottsbluff and Columbus. After her retirement she continued to live on the family farm est of Elgin until May, 1988, when she became a resident of the nursing center. She was a member of the Elgin United Methodist church and the Cedar Creek Club. Survivors include five nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Bradford, Herbert, Freeman, Clifford and Ferne; two sisters, Olive EGGLESTON and Edith BAILEY.

ALICE HERBERTA EGGLESTON

Alice Herberta, daughter of Herbert R and Edna EGGLESTON, was born June 18, 1918 and died early Monday morning, October 9, 1922, at the home of her parents southwest of Oakdale. Besides her parents she leaves a sister and other relatives. The funeral was held Wednesday, October 11, short services at the house being followed by services at the Oakdale Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. C. L. MEYERS and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.

CLARA LOU EGGLESTON

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. for Mrs Freeman EGGLESTON, 61, of Elgin who died Sunday, May 19, 1957, in a Tilden Hospital after a lingering illness. The Rev. Kenneth MARTIN of Maxwell was in charge of the services at the farm home southwest of Elgin. At 2:30 p.m. services were held in the Presbyterian Church in Elgin. Burial was in Oakdale. She is survived by her husband, her father, SHERMAN VOLENTINE of Tilden, and one brother, John VOLENTINE at Park Rapids, Minnesota.

EDNA GRACE LIVINGSTON EGGLESTON

Edna Grace EGGLESTON, daughter of John LIVINGSTON and Laura SKAIFE EGGLESTON, was born October 3, 1886 in Livingston, Wisconsin. On February 29, 1912 she was united in marriage to Herbert EGGLESTON in Livingston, Wisconsin. The couple made their home north east of Elgin for 96 years. During this time Edna taught school in Elgin for many years. After Mr EGGLESTON's death in September in 1957, Mrs. EGGLESTON moved to Bellflower, California. On October 16, 1977 she died in the Bird Haven Convalescent Hospital in Paramount, California. She leaves to survive her two daughters, Marjorie ANDERSON of Bellflower, California and Barbara VOLENTINE of Brush Prairie, Washington; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank LIVINGSTON of Mound, Minnesota and James LIVINGSTON of Denver, Colorado; and two sisters, Mabel LIVINGSTON of Livingston, Wisconsin and Mary PROCTOR of Altadena, California. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Alice; two sisters. and two brothers. Funeral services were held: Thursday, October 20 from Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin with the Rev. Rose RICHARDON of Elgin officiating. The organist was Mrs Don GENRICH and the soloist was David D. DOESCHOT. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald OFE, Richard BAILEY, Reuben SWANSON, Arthur THUNKER, William MILLER, and A. C. CARLSON. Relatives who were here to attend funeral services for Edna EGGLESTON were: Mr. and Mrs. Francis ANDERSON of Bellflower, California, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard VOLENTINE of Brush Prairie, Washington, Frank LIVINGSTON and son, John of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr and Mrs. Richard BAILEY and family of Omaha.

Eliza Elizabeth (HORNE) EGGLESTON

Abridged: Mrs Eliza Elizabeth Eggleston passed away Tuesday, July 31, 1951 at the age of ninety-one years, eleven months and nineteen days. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery, August 2, 1951. She was born in Norwich, England, September 12, 1859, to Robert and Elizabeth Horne. She came with her parents to America at the age of seven years and spent her childhood on her father’s homestead southeast of Elgin, Nebraska. On December 28, 1880, she was married to Oliver F Eggleston and they set up housekeeping on Mr Eggleston’s homestead southeast of Elgin. In January 1903, the family moved to a farm four miles east of Elgin which was her home until her death. She was active in the Methodist Church. She leaves to mourn her passing seven children, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, twelve nieces and nephews and a host of friends. One child died in infancy. The surviving children are Herbert R, Freeman R and Clifford H of Elgin, Mrs Edith Bailey of Lincoln, Oliver F of Detroit, MI and Alida Eggleston of Scottsbluff.

FREEMAN ROBERT EGGLESTON

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19 at 2 p.m. at the Neligh Church of Christ for Freeman EGGLESTON of Neligh who died Sunday, June 15, 1969 at the Tilden Community Hospital. Robert TROSPER, pastor, will officiate at the service, assisted by David RATZLAFF. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery with Leslie GILLESPIE, Lyle SMITH, Dean HUGHES, Gordon HUGHES, CARL SCHRADER, and Howard EARLING serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest HOPKINS, Grover HALSEY, Stan MADDOX and Carsten LORENZEN. Freeman Robert EGGLESTON, son of Oliver F and Eliza Elizabeth HORNE EGGLESTON, was born August 28, 1890 at Elgin and died at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 17 days. He grew to manhood on the farms of his parents southeast and east of Elgin and received his formal education in the Elgin High School graduating with the class of 1910. On February 9, 1916, at the home of the bride’s parents southwest of Elgin, he was married to Miss Clara Lou VOLENTINE. To this union one son and one daughter were born. This couple made their home on a farm in the Elgin community all of their married life with the exception of two years, 1940 and 1942, they resided in Foley, Alabama. Mrs EGGLESTON died May 19, 1957. On August 19, 1958 in the Park Avenue Christian Church at Norfolk, he married Mrs Lottie HEMENWAY of Neligh. They have since lived in Neligh and he was active in the management of his farms until his last illness. Survivors include his wife, Lottie of Neligh, two sisters, Mrs Roy BAILEY and Miss Aleda EGGLESTON, both of Elgin, two brothers, Clifford of Elgin and Oliver of Detroit, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one daughter, Brenda, one son, Fenmore, one sister, Olive and two brothers, Bradford and Herbert.

Oliver Francis EGGLESTON

Abridged: Oliver Francis Eggleston was born November 14, 1849 in Lee County, near Augusta, Iowa. His boyhood days were spent in Lee County until he was 21 years of age. In 1874 he came to Nebraska, locating in Antelope County on a homestead of 160 acres in Cedar Township. On December 28, 1880 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Horne. To this union were born five boys and three girls: Bradford, Herbert, Olive, Edith, Freeman, Clifford, Fernie and Aleda. All are living but Bradford who died in infancy. He died at his home east of Elgin on September 20, 1921. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four sons, Herbert, Freeman, Clifford and Fernie of Elgin, and three daughters, Mrs J. M. Lemmons of Slater, CO, Mrs Roy Bailey of Newman Grove, and Aleda, who is at home. He also leaves his sisters, Mrs Harriet Bryant of Burlington, Iowa, and Mrs John Speaks of Bismarck, ND and one brother, Norman Eggleston of Buckley, WA. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Oakdale, Friday afternoon. Interment was made in Oakdale Cemetery.
