Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-September 24, 1920

Adam Gibson

Adam GIBSON was born in Dunstan, England on the 8th day of February, 1845, and departed this life from his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, September 18, 1920, being aged 75 years, 7 months and 10 days. The deceased has been in ill health for many weeks having suffered with a complication of ailments from a period antedating the death of his wife which occurred last February. At the early age of 10 years Mr. Gibson came with his parents to America, locating in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Here he grew to maturity and on the 30th day of March, 1869, he was married to Miss Jane Ann Launders. To this home there were born four children, Mrs. Carrie SHORT of Elgin, Fred GIBSON of Oakdale, Mrs. Fannie SHORT of Neligh, and one died in infancy. The deceased moved with his family in 1885 to Antelope County, Nebraska, locating on a farm. About seventeen years ago he and his wife moved to Oakdale where both have ended their earthly pilgrimage. For a number of years Mr. Gibson has been a member of the Methodist Church. He was a good citizen and his example of right living and honorable action is worthy of emulation. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. C. L. Meyers, and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-February 18, 1899

George GIBSON

George GIBSON, father of John and Gowen GIBSON of Oakdale, died February 8, 1899, at North Yamhill, Oregon of Bright’s disease, at the age of 69 years. He died at the home of his only daughter who he had went to visit. The remains were brought to Oakdale for interment in the Oakdale Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. SHARPLES officiating. George GIBSON was born in the County of Durham, England, December 25, 1827; was married January 3, 1854 in England to Miss Isabel WHEATLEY. His wife died October 29, 1892 aged 59 years. Nine children were born to them, six of whom are living.

GOWEN W. GIBSON

Gowen W. GIBSON was born at Beloit, Wisconsin, January 18, 1870 and died at Dubuque, Iowa, May 10, 1913. He came to Antelope County with his parents when about one year old. The family removed to Moline, Illinois. He remained here and worked for the railroad unitl having to quit because of health reasons. His brother, J. S. GIBSON was summoned to his bedside just before death. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ISABELLE WHEATLEY GIBSON

Died at her home, about 3 miles southeast of Oakdale, October 30, 1892, Mrs George (Belle) GIBSON. Isabella WHEATLEY was born in England in 1832 and was therefore at the time of her death about 60 years old. For a long time past the deceased was afflicted with trouble of the heart, and on Sunday morning the angel of death summoned her to the reward of a long and well spent life. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, one daughter, and five sons. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the attendance at the funeral was large, which is sterling proof of the love and esteem in which the deceased and the family are held. The bereaved have the sympathy of all in this their exceedingly great affliction.

JANE ANN LAUNDERS - GIBSON

Jane Ann LAUNDERS was born at Waukegan, Ill, October 6, 1846, and died at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska., February 27, 1920, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 21 days. At the age of three years she moved with her parents to Fond-du-lac county, Wisconsin. Here she was married to Adam GIBSON March 30, 1869, and to them were born four children, Mrs. Carrie SHORT of Elgin, Fred GIBSON of Oakdale, Mrs. Fannie SHORT of Neligh, and one died in infancy. In 1885 she moved with her family to Antelope County where they lived on a farm about 10 miles southeast of Oakdale. Here they remained for about sixteen years. Leaving the farm they came to this place where they have since resided. It was on November 20, 1919, that Mrs. GIBSON had a fall that resulted in the breaking of her hip. She was taken to the hospital in Neligh where she was cared for for seven weeks. Returning to her home she failed to recover and gradually grew weaker, suffering with asthma constantly until death came to her release. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. L. MEYERS, and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mattie L (TOUSGARD) GIBSON

Abridged: Mattie L Tousgard was born in Newell, Iowa, October 4, 1874. On July 4, 1879 she came with her parents to Antelope County, Nebraska, locating in Willow Township. Here the deceased spent her girlhood and young womanhood. On January 10, 1894 she was united in marriage to John S Gibson at Oakdale and began her duties as homemaker on the Gibson farm southeast of this city. Early in 1907 the family removed to Oakdale where they have since resided. To Mr and Mrs Gibson, two daughters were born, Vee and Barbara, who with their father lament the loss of their devoted mother and wife. She leaves her mother, Mrs M Tousgard, a brother Martin, both of Willow and a sister, Mrs W J From of Omaha, together with a host of friends. After a sickness of several months, Mrs Gibson died Friday, September 16, 1921 at her home in Oakdale. Funeral services were held at the home. Interment was made in the Monument addition to the Oakdale Cemetery.
