Hudson Henry HAWK

H. H. Hawk, 92, died Monday noon at his home here. He had been confined to his bed about a month. Until his last illness Mr. Hawk had been unusually active for his age, making his own garden, shoveling his own walks free of snow and last fall was even up on his roof helping tar it. All of his children except his son, G. F. Hawk, were home to see him before his death. Hudson Henry Hawk, son of Eliza Lindthurst Hawk and Jake Hawk, was born in Perryville, PA., October 20, 1854, and passed away at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, April 14, 1947, at the age of ninety-two years, five months and twenty-five days. He was married to Sarah Jane Mills in 1875. They moved to a homestead in Pierce County in 1878. Here he resided until the spring of 1901 at which time he moved to the present home at Oakdale, Nebraska, where he resided until his death. His wife passed away here in March 1912. To this union was born two sons and four daughters, all of whom remain to mourn his death: sons Frank H. Hawk, Whittier, Ca.; G. F. Hawk, San Gabriel, Ca.; Mrs. A. H. Blinco, Willmar, MN.; Mrs. J. L. Benedict, Seattle, WA.; Mrs. H. H. Springer of Oakdale and Mrs. E. G. Gallaway of Oakdale with whom he resided in his later years. Surviving him also are twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Thus has passed away a kind father, grandfather and friend to all. Rev. Dawson J. Park conducted funeral services at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made in the family plot in Oakdale Cemetery.

SARAH JANE MILLS HAWK

Sarah Jane MILLS died MARCH 3, 1912 at her home in Oakdale. Sarah Jane was born in Oakland, Pennsylvania July 29, 1852 and was married to H. H. HAWK at Port Royal, Pennsylvania in February 1876. In 1879 they came to Pierce County Nebraska and finally to Oakdale in 1901. Seven children were born to this union. Living survivors were; Mrs A. H. BLINCO of Wilmar, Minnesota, Lila of Spokane, Washington, Guy, Vella, and Willard of Oakdale, and Frank of Hampton, Nebraska. She also leaves her husband, two sisters, Mrs E. E. HOSMAN of Norfolk, and Mrs Stella QUIMBY of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and five brothers, B. H. and L. B. MILLS of Tilden, George of Loretto, Nebraska, Edgar of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Rev. W. H. MILLS of Norton, Kansas. The goodbye services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. G. W. SYNDER.
