CARL JACKSON

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 29 for Carl JACKSON, 77, of Oakdale at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Willis TAPLIN officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs Keith COOPER, soloist, accompanied by Earl Henry MCNARE Jr. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Donald OFE, William CORNETT, William MILLER, Ralph KINNAN, Alvin SCHWARTING, and Ivan KINNAN serving as pallbearers. Carl JACKSON son of the late Columbus and Florilla JACKSON was born March 21, 1887 at Clinton, Nebraska and died January 25, 1965. At the age of 11 he moved with his parents to the Oakdale community where he spent most of his life farming. On November 15, 1910 he was married to Elsie BURKHEAD at Neligh and they resided on a farm near Oakdale until 1950 when they moved to Oakdale. Mr and Mrs JACKSON observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1960. He is survived by his widow, Elsie, one brother, Robin JACKSON of Portland, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.

ELSIE V. BURKHEAD JACKSON

Services for Mrs Elsie V. Jackson, 92, of Oakdale were held Monday, November 5, at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale with Alvin SCHWARTING officiating. Kay CROSIER was organist, accompanying Zella SCHWARTING, soloist. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Kriss SANDERSON, Larry GODEL, Lynn BUDDE, Dennis BUDDE, and Robby BUDDE and Gene ROTHWELL serving as pallbearers. Elsie V. JACKSON, daughter of Joseph W. and Elnora AUSTIN BURKHEAD, was born August 4, 1892, south of Oakdale in the Star area. She died Friday, November 2, 1984, at Lutheran community hospital in Norfolk. Mrs JACKSON received her education at Oakdale. She also attended Peru State Teachers College. On November 15, 1910, she married Carl JACKSON. This couple farmed near Oakdale and at Burke, South Dakota before returning to Oakdale to operate a pool hall for a short period to time. They returned to farming near Oakdale. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1965, one brother, Jack BURKHEAD, and one sister Mrs Percy (Ora C.) TENNIS. Survivors include two nieces, Mrs Leone (BUDDE) Firth of Hampton and Sharon GODEL of Norfolk, one nephew, Bob BURKHEAD of Washington, a great nephew, Eugene BUDDE of Cairo, and a great niece, Mrs Gene (Carolyn) ROTHWELL of Torrance, California.
