FORA E. KIFER

Funeral services for Fora E. "Sonny" KIFER, 70, of Oakdale, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Oakdale United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard ODGERS officiating. Mrs Raymond CROSIER was organist for the services. Vocalists were Mr and Mrs Alvin SCHWARTING. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Willard GEARY, Jeff GEARY, Steve GEARY, Trey TINDELL, Roger WHITWER and Roger HASKIN. Fora E. "Sonny" KIFER, son of Earl and Ethel SCRIVENS KIFER, was born January 31, 1918, at Chambers and died at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospital on April 20, 1988. He attended schools in the Chambers and O’Neill areas. On December 29, 1937, he married Mildred L GEARY in Yankton, South Dakota. This couple farmed near Page until 1947. He worked on the Fort Randall Dam in Pickstown, South Dakota. The Kifers then settled near Pierre, South Dakota for 17 years where he worked on the Oahe Dam. They moved to Basalt, Colorado in 1965 where he worked with heavy construction on a diversion project until 1979. The couple retired to Oakdale. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Mildred I. KIFER; one son, Michael, of Oakdale; three daughters, Mrs Dixie TINDELL of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mrs Gary (Patricia) LANDEEN of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Mrs James (DiAnne) SMITH of Wamego, Kansas; one sister, Mrs Bernard (Elnora) STEWART of Eagle River, Alaska; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
