CHARLES N KINNAN

Charles N KINNAN, 81, of Oakdale died Thursday, May 30, 1957, at the Tilden Hospital. Funeral services were held at the Oakdale Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert FOLKERS of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph, Ivan, Louis and Darrell KINNAN and Walter and Thomas WELTZ, all of Oakdale, all nephews. Charles KINNAN, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas KINNAN was born April 28, 1876 in Ohio and died May 30 at the age of 81 years, 1 moth and 2 days. Mr KINNAN came with his parents to the Oakdale community as a young boy and had lived in the Oakdale vicinity since. He was married to Miss Mary DEMPSEY of Oakdale in 1906. They lived on a farm many years and had lived in Oakdale since retiring several years ago. Mr KINNAN is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs Florence HOYDA of Oakdale, two sons, Floyd of Oakdale and Harry of Artesia, California, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale and Mrs Ora MILLER of Lyman, and five brothers, Jess, James, Harry and Ferd of Oakdale and George of Amber, Iowa.

FERD E KINNAN

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Ferd KINNAN, 75, who died Saturday, January 8, 1966, at the Tilden Community Hospital. Alvin SCHWARTING, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Ferd KINNAN, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas E. KINNAN was born May 16, 1890 east of Madison. He was a retired farmer and moved to Oakdale in 1959. He is survived by his widow, Maude, four brothers, James, Jess and Harry, all of Oakdale, and George of Amber, Iowa; and a sister, Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW of Omaha.

FLOYD NORMAN KINNAN

Funeral services for Floyd N KINNAN, 84,of Oakdale, were held Tuesday, January 17, at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale. The Rev. Martha VOIGHT officiated. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery under the direction of Marshal-Harlan Funeral Home of Tilden.. Pallbearers were Gene KINNAN, Arvid MARKS, Lewis BROWN, Darrel J KINNAN, Dana KINNAN and Darrel A KINNAN. Floyd Norman KINNAN, son of Charles and Mary (Dempsey) KINNAN, was born July 1819,1910, 10 mi. south of Oakdale. He married Mildred Annette LEET on January 19, 1935 at West Chester, Iowa. The couple farmed north of Oakdale until moving into town in 1970. He was a carpenter and helped with the set up of prebuilt homes until retiring in 1977. Mr KINNAN died Sunday, January 15, 1995 in the Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. He was preceded in death by his parents, a still born son, a granddaughter and a sister, Florence HOYDA of Oakdale. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mary CALLISON and Mrs Bob (Helen) BEESON, both of Oakdale, a brother, Harry KINNAN of Arcata, California, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Harry Kinnan

Funeral services for Harry KINNAN, 101, of Neligh, formerly of Oakdale, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19 at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale with Rev. Richard ODGERS officiating. Kay CROSIER will be organist, with congregational singing.Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry, Scott, Darrel and Gene KINNAN, Fred BEESON and Bruce PITZER. Harry KINNAN, son of Thomas and Martha FRAIN KINNAN, was born Jan.16, 1887, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and died May 16, 1988 at Antelope Memorial Hospital. At the age of two, he moved with his family to a farm east three miles east of Madison. In 1892, the family moved to a farm south of Oakdale. When KINNAN's parents moved into Oakdale, he and two brothers, Ferd and Jess, took over the farming operation.The farm was sold in 1959 and KINNAN moved into Oakdale. In recent years, he had been a resident of the Neligh Nursing Center. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and it’s men's club and of the Town and Country Club. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers Charlie, Jim, George, Ferd and Jess; and four sisters, Alice WELTZ, Fanny MILLER, Etta KINNAN and Emma STRINGFELLOW. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

JAMES GILBERT KINNAN

Funeral services for James G KINNAN were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 18 at the Methodist Church in Oakdale with the Rev. Connie J BUEHLER officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery and serving as pallbearers were Darrel Allen KINNAN, Gene KINNAN, Laverne CLAUSEN, Jerry KINNAN, Louis H KINNAN, and LaVern POLLOCK. James Gilbert KINNAN was born November 12, 1881 to Thomas and Martha KINNAN at Henery County, Iowa and died February 15, 1970 at the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 3 days. At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to Madison, Nebraska and in 1892 they moved to Antelope County in the Star neighborhood. On March 2, 1910 he was married to Jennie BLISS at her home south of Oakdale and to this union six children were born; Ralph, Ivan, and Louis of Oakdale, Darrel of Lincoln, Mrs Herschel (Aryls) FAUST of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs Arvid (Geraldine) MARKS of Wayne. The KINNANs resided on several farms south of Oakdale until 1947 when they retired and moved to town. Mr KINNAN assisted his son, Ivan, in the locker plant and store from 1947 to 1968. The couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1960. Surviving are his widow, Jennie, six children, 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

JENNIE BLISS KINNAN

Funeral services for Mrs Jennie BLISS KINNAN were held Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Oakdale. The Rev. Connie J BUEHLER of Elgin officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jerry KINNAN, Gene KINNAN, Louis H KINNAN, Laverne CLAUSEN, LaVern POLLOCK, and Charles LINGREN. Jennie BLISS KINNAN, daughter of James and Phoebe BLISS, was born, June 6, 1889 at their farm home south of Oakdale and died at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha on May 27,1971 at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 21 days. She spent all of her life in and around the Oakdale community. On March 2, 1919 she was united in marriage to James KINNAN at the home of her parents. To this union six children were born: Ralph, Ivan, Louis of Oakdale, Darrel of Lincoln, Mrs Herchel (Arlys) FAUST of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs Arvid (Geraldine) MARKS of Wayne. She was a member of the Star EUB Church and later transferred for membership in the United Methodist Church at Oakdale. She was also a member of the Oakdale Rebekah Lodge, the Oakdale Extension Club and the EUB Aid for many years. Surviving are her six children, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

JESS T KINNAN

Services for Jess T KINNAN of Oakdale were held Saturday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakdale United Methodist Church. Alvin SCHWARTING officiated at the service with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph KINNAN, Ivan KINNAN, Floyd KINNAN, Louis KINNAN, Darrell KINNAN, Jerry KINNAN. Jess T KINNAN, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas A KINNAN, was born May 16, 1884 in Iowa and died Wednesday, July 5 at a Hospital in Norfolk. KINNAN was a retired farmer. Survivors include his brothers, Harry of Oakdale, one sister, Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW of Omaha, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Martha Ellen (FRAME) KINNAN

ABRIDGED: after an illness of several weeks, Mrs T. A. KINNAN passed away October 30, 1917 at her home in Oakdale. Martha Ellen FRAME was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, October 24, 1851. She grew to young womanhood in her native County. On November 1, 1874 she was married to Thomas A KINNAN and two years later they removed to Henry County, Iowa. Six years later they moved to Pottawattamie County. After another six years they came to Madison, Nebraska, later moving to Antelope County and locating on a farm south of Oakdale. Here they resided until 1904 when they moved to Oakdale. Mrs KINNAN was a mother of ten children, six boys and four girls, all of whom have reached maturity. The children are, Mrs Alice Weltz, Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW, Miss Etta KINNAN, Charles, James, Jesse, Ferd, Harry all of Oakdale, Mrs Frances MILLER of Morrill, NE, George of Primghar, Iowa. Mrs KINNAN was a devoted wife and mother, a tree friend and a loyal neighbor. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at HARPER Memorial United Methodist Church with interment in the Oakdale Cemetery.

MARY KINNAN

Services for Mary KINNAN, 99, Oakdale, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Oakdale Methodist Church. The Rev. Gordon J. PRUE will officiate and burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. The body will lie in state 3-9 p..m. Wednesday at Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Born March 20, 1878, on a Calhoun County, Iowa, farm, she died Monday, February 12, 1978, at the Tilden hospital. Her family moved to an Oakdale farm in 1902. On December 28, 1904, she was married to Charles KINNAN. They moved to town in 1945. He died in 1957. Surviving are one daughter, Florence HOYDA of Oakdale, and two sons, Floyd of Oakdale and Harry of Arcadia, California.

MARY ALICE HUTCHINS KINNAN

Mortuary services were held for Mary Alice KINNAN, who died August 2, 1942, at the Methodist church in Oakdale on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, the Rev. R. E. DAUGHETEE, assisted by Rev. L. A. REGER, officiating. Interment was made in the Oakdale cemetery. Her grandsons acted as her pallbearers. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. E. J. SCOTT and daughters Alice SCOTT and Lucy SCOTT of Timber Lake, SD.; George KINNAN of Amber, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd KINNAN and family of Westchester, Iowa. Mary Alice HUTCHINS, daughter of Rev. Osman HUTCHINS and Mary HUTCHINS, was born in Winnebago, Illinois, May 22, 1857. When she was 12 years old her parents moved to near Leroy, Minnesota, where she grew to womanhood. On February 20, 1881, she married Charles E. HAVENS of Newark Valley, New York. In July 1881, she and her husband moved to a homestead in Sanborne County near Woonsocket, South Dakota. Four children were born to this union. Mr. HAVENS died in September 1891. In September 1919, she married Thomas A. KINNAN and moved to Oakdale, Nebraska. She is survived by three children, Mrs. E.J. SCOTT, Timber Lake S.D.; Mrs. W. L. PIER and Harvey HAVENS of Fort Worth, TX. 9 foster children; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

MARY ETTA KINNAN

Abridged: Mary Etta KINNAN was born at New London, Iowa, August 28, 1877 and passed away July 5, 1930. She came to Nebraska with her parents in 1892 and located near Madison, living there for a few years, afterward moving to the Star community. She has kept house on the home farm for her brothers for 25 years. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged father, T. A. KINNAN, three sisters, Mrs Alice WEITZ and Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale and Mrs Fannie MILLER of Lyman, NE, six brothers, Charles, James, Jesse, Ferd and Harry of Oakdale and George of Waterloo, IA, also 14 nephews, 5 nieces, 2 great nephews and 3 great nieces. Her mother preceded her in death in 1917. Funeral services were held at the Oakdale United Brethren Church Sunday afternoon, July 8, and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

MARY JANE DEMPSEY KINNAN

Abridged: Services were held Thursday, February 16 at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale for Mary J KINNAN, Oakdale’s oldest citizen. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mary Jane KINNAN was born mar 20, 1878 to John and Mary Jane PARSEL DEMPSEY in Calhoun County, Iowa and died Monday, February 13, 1978 at the Tilden Community Hospital. She moved with her family in 1886 by covered wagon and oxen to a farm near Mills in Keya Paha County. In the fall of the same year they moved to a farm southeast of Oakdale. In December of 1904 she was married to Charles KINNAN in the home of her parents. Charles KINNAN died May 30, 1957. Survivors include one daughter, Florence HOYDA of Oakdale, two sons, Floyd of Oakdale and Harry of Arcata, CA, seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, and one brother, John Fred DEMPSEY of Oakdale. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, three brothers, one grandson, and one great granddaughter.

MILDRED ANNETTE (LEET) KINNAN

 

Abridged: Funeral services for Mildred Annette Leet Kinnan of Oakdale were held August 27. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mildred Annette Leet, daughter of Walter A. and Elizabeth E (Newton) Leet was born January 18, 1911 at West Chester, Iowa. She graduated from West Chester High School. On January 19, 1935 she married Floyd Kinnan at the home of her parents. Mrs Kinnan was a nurse in a doctor's office in Wellman, Iowa until August 1935 when she became a housewife and mother. They moved to a farm south of Oakdale in 1945. The couple moved into Oakdale in 1970. Mr Kinnan died January 5, 1995. Mrs Kinnan died August 23, 1999 at the Neligh Nursing Center. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and a stillborn son, a sister, Dorothy Miller, a brother, Richard Leet and a granddaughter. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Callison and Helen Beeson and her husband, Bob, a brother, Harold Leet, two sisters, Betty Bishop and Wilma Iserman, seven grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

THOMAS ANDREW KINNAN

Abridged: Thomas Andrew KINNAN was born in Somerset, Ohio, March 2, 1852 and departed this life Wednesday, October 10, 1934, at his home in Oakdale. He was the youngest and last surviving member of a family of ten children. He grew to manhood in his native State. At the age of seventeen he was prompted by a desire to go west. On November 1, 1874 he was married to Martha Ellen FRAME of Somerset, Ohio, two years after he moved to Henry County, Iowa. Six years were spent there when the family moved to Pottawattamie County where they resided for six years, coming to Nebraska and locating at Madison. Later he moved to a farm south of Oakdale. In 1904 the family moved into town. He was the father of ten children, Mrs Alice WELTZ, Mrs Emma STRINGFELLOW, Charles, James, Jesse, Harry and Ferd of Oakdale, Mrs Fannie MILLER of Lyman, Nebraska, George of Stone City, Iowa and Etta who passed away four years ago. His wife preceded him in death October 30, 1917. In 1919 he was married to Mrs Alice HAVENS of Mitchell, SD. He leaves to mourn him, his wife, nine children, three stepchildren, twenty grandchildren, sixteen step-grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. After funeral services at the Methodist Church, he was interred in the Oakdale Cemetery.
