ALPHA ELIZABETH PENNINGTON MARTINDALE

Alpha Elizabeth PENNINGTON was born November 11, 1902 at Stanton, NE and died at Norfolk, NE, September 19, 1931. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Sherman PENNINGTON of Stanton, NE. There she spent her early childhood and attended city schools. On December 8, 1920 she was united in marriage to Floyd MARTINDALE at Neligh, NE. Shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm south of Oakdale and have lived in that community their entire married life. She is survived by her husband, her father, Sherman PENNINGTON, and a sister, Mrs Lola MILLER both of Stanton, and her brother, Ray PENNINGTON of Norfolk. Her mother preceded her in death November 11, 1902. The above named relatives she leaves to mourn her early departure, also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends made during her early life and during the ten years residence in this community. She was of an unusually pleasant disposition, a neighbor who showed herself friendly and helpful, and a considerate and affectionate wife. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

CORA SHERLOCK MARTINDALE

Mrs. James MARTINDALE, 70, died Sunday, just one week after her son, Floyd, was instantly killed in a truck-train crash. She had suffered a heart attack the day of his funeral. Cora SHERLOCK was born December 31, 1875, at Cadillac, Michigan, and died at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska, February 3, 1946, at the age of seventy years, one month and three days. She was the daughter of Stephen SHERLOCK and Nettie SHERLOCK of Cadillac. When she was seven years old the father brought the family to Nebraska, the mother having passed away when Cora was four years old. On October 19, 1892, she was united in marriage to James MARTINDALE at Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy. Another son, Floyd, died one week before her passing. The first ten years of their married life was spent in Cuming County. In 1902 the family moved to Antelope County where she spent the remainder of her life. In 1933 she became a charter member of the Church of Christ and served as a faithful member. She was a loving wife and mother and devoted her life to her family. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. The shock of Floyd’s sudden death was so great that she never recovered. She was stricken with a heart attack the day of his funeral and passed away the following Sunday at 1 p.m.

Her father and mother having preceded her in death she leaves to mourn, her husband, three daughters, Mrs. John TIMM and Mrs. Phillip SCHULMBERGER of Oakdale and Mrs. Pat CROSS of Bell, Ca., and one son Golden MARTINDALE of Yoder, Wyoming, one sister Alma SHERLOCK, of Boine City, Michigan, fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church by the Christian minister of Norfolk, Guy B. DUNNING, assisted by Rev. Dawson J. PARK. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Dolly (SHERLOCK) MARTINDALE

Abridged: Dolly Sherlock was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, August 23, 1837 and departed this life about midnight, March 10, 1922. She married Milo Martindale in Michigan in 1853. Before coming to Nebraska there were born to them four boys and two girls of whom two boys and one girl died in Michigan. In 1866 the family came to Nebraska locating on a farm in Cuming County, near West Point. Five more children were born to them at this place, three of whom died before the family moved to Oakdale, One child died at Oakdale a few years ago and another in Montana last year. In 1916, Mr and Mrs Martindale came to Oakdale from Madison County. Mr Martindale died here on February 23, 1917. Mrs Martindale had been in failing health for the past 10 months. Of the remaining relatives, there are two sons and one daughter, Mrs Emma Webb, William and James Martindale, all of Oakdale, twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Sunday afternoon and the body reposed in the Oakdale Cemetery.

FLOYD MILO MARTINDALE

Floyd Milo MARTINDALE, son of Mr. and Mrs. James MARTINDALE, was born August 24, 1900, near Madison, Nebraska, and passed away January 27, 1946, at the age of forty five years, five months and three days. When Floyd was two and a half years old the family moved to Antelope County where he grew to manhood and spent the remainder of his life. On May 20, 1933, he was united in marriage to Helen IBURG of Elgin at Pierce, Nebraska. Those surviving to mourn his death are his wife, Helen; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James MARTINDALE of Oakdale; one brother, Golden MARTINDALE of Yoder, Wyoming; three sisters, Mrs. John TIMM and Mrs. Phillip SCHLUMBERGER of Oakdale and Mrs. Pat CROSS of Bell, Ca. A host of other relatives and friends. Rev. Dawson J. PARK conducted funeral services at the Methodist church at 3:15 Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Frank MARTINDALE

Abridged: Frank Martindale was born at Bay City, Michigan, November 2, 1862. He died at Lewiston, Montana on June 6, 1921. In 1866 he came with his parents to Cuming County, Nebraska. At the age of 25 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Fox of Beemer, the ceremony being performed at West Point. He located in Madison County in the latter 80’s and a few years later came to Antelope County, residing near and in Oakdale until seven years ago when he removed to Montana. Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by four sons and four daughters: Clinton Martindale of Valentine, Montana, May Mahoney of Plainview, Nebraska, Flossie Stewart of Norfolk, Nebraska, Laverne Terry of Meadow Grove, Nebraska, Alverta, Paul, Lee and Franklin Martindale of Kachia, Montana. Burial was made at Lewiston, Montana, but relatives are planning the removal of the remains to the family lot in the Oakdale Cemetery.

FRED E. MARTINDALE

Following illness, Fred E. MARTINDALE died Tuesday, March 3, 1914, at his home. He was born near Beemer, Nebraska on November 30, 1878. He moved to Madison County in 1892 and then to Antelope County. He married Miss Clara WINEAN of Rapid City, South Dakota. Two sons, besides his wife survive. Also surviving are his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the United Brethren Church, conducted by Rev. BLAKELEY and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

JAMES EDWIN MARTINDALE

James MARTINDALE, past 72, died Thursday morning, June 6, at a Norfolk hospital. He suffered a heart attack. A Christian minister, Daniel ESCRITT, conducted funeral services Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Christian church. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. James Edwin MARTINDALE was born November 2, 1873, in Cuming county, Nebraska, and passed away June 6, 1946, at the age of seventy two years, seven months and four days. He was the son of Milo MARTINDALE and Dollie MARTINDALE. On October 19, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Cora SHERLOCK at Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy. Another son, Floyd, was killed January 27, 1946 in a truck-train crash. In 1902 the family moved to Antelope County where Mr. MARTINDALE farmed until 1933. In 1935 he was stricken with asthma and had been ailing since that time. Mr. MARTINDALE’S wife having preceded him in death, he leaves to mourn: one son Golden MARTINDALE of Yoder, Wyo., three daughters; Mrs. John TIMM and Mrs. Phillip SCHLUMBERGER of Oakdale and Mrs. Pat CROSS of Bell, Ca., brother William MARTINDALE of Oakdale; fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The infant child of Mr and Mrs James MARTINDALE died Monday, June 22, 1908 and burial was Tuesday in the Oakdale Cemetery. Rev HOGH of Elgin conducted the service.

William Milo MARTINDALE

Wm. M. Martindale, 84, passed away at his home here Thursday morning following a three week’s illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church. Rev. E. A. Fletcher had charge of the services and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. William Milo Martindale, son of Milo and Dolly Martindale, was born at Bay City, Michigan, April 27, 1865, and passed away February 16, 1950, at his home in Oakdale at the age of eighty-four years, nine months and twenty days, after an illness of three weeks. In 1866 he came with his parents to Cuming county, Nebraska, later locating in Madison County. In 1902 the family moved to Antelope County. On March 26, 1909, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Almeda Binger of Oakdale. They made their home on the farm south of Oakdale until the fall of 1918 when they moved to Oakdale. He is survived his wife, Almeda, and two stepchildren, Mrs. Esta Schuchardt of Oakdale, Hersil Binger of Oakland, Ca., and several nieces and nephews. In early life he and his wife joined the Evangelical United Brethren church in Oakdale. He was an ardent worker in the church as ling as he was able.
