Benjamin MOON

Abridged: Benjamin Moon died at his home near Oakdale, Sunday, July 8, 1917, at the mature age of seventy-five years, six months and twenty-two days. Mr Moon was born in Allegany County, Maryland, in 1841, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Emily Harvey in 1872. In 1881 with his family he moved to Nebraska and settled in Oakdale. The family of Benjamin Moon and Emily Harvey are David, whose residence is Maurice, Iowa; Mrs Carl Frank, Ainsworth, NE; Palmer Moon, Tilden NE; Robert, Oakdale, Mrs Vera Rollin, Draper, SD and Mrs Nina Rollin, Quimby, IA. He was buried in the Oakdale Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, following the funeral services at the home.

EMILY JANE HARVEY MOON

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Moon, who died Thursday evening, were held Saturday. A prayer service was held at the Barnum Mortuary at Neligh followed by services at the Oakdale Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. W. Smith. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Emily Jane HARVEY was born at Oakland, Maryland, December 13, 1851, one of the twelve children of Nathaniel and Rachel HARVEY, and she passed away at her home south of Oakdale, Nebraska, in the evening of March 15, 1945, having reached the age of 93 years and 3 months.

On July 10, 1871, she was united in marriage to Benjamin MOON, in her home community of Oakland, Maryland. To this union six children were born all of who survive her death. In the year 1882, after living at their place of marriage for ten years, Mrs. Moon moved with her husband to Oakdale, Nebraska, where they spent the winter. In the spring of 1883 they took up a homestead south of Oakdale and it was there she lived the rest of her life. Mrs. Moon lived in this vicinity more that 63 years and was certainly one of the last and possibly the last of those hardy citizens who first settled in the Oakdale region. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist church, having united in that church as a girl, in Maryland and later transferring her membership here. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons: David MOON and Robert MOON of Oakdale, Palmer MOON of Tilden; her three daughters, Mrs. Laura FRANK, Omaha, Mrs. Ralph ROLLINS, Draper, SD.; Mrs. Ray ROLLINS, Quimby, Iowa. She had 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Two grandchildren preceded her in death and three are now serving in the armed forces of our country. It is said that she was in perfect health and had her own teeth.

GLADYS L BICKFORD MOON

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22 at the United Methodist Church in Neligh for Mrs Willis (Gladys) MOON who died Sunday, January 19, 1974, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Everett CUDABACK at Raton, New Mexico. The Rev. Harold COATES officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were grandsons, Michael COBERLY, Darrell DAVIS, Gregory MOON, Ronnie NUNN, Leroy NUNN, and Michael CHELSVIG. Honorary bearers were Donald PIKE and Fred GRANT. Gladys L MOON was born November 24, 1904 at Oakdale to Nettie and Algernon Bickford. She grew to womanhood in the Oakdale community and married Willis MOON of Tilden on December 1, 1920. They lived in Oakdale until moving to Neligh in 1941. Six children were born to this union, Mrs Everett (June) CUDABACK of Raton, New Mexico, Mrs Jack (Shirley) WIERSON of Atlantic, Iowa, Dean of Lompoe, California, Vernon of Edmonds, Washington, Dale of Denver and Gary of Columbus. Mrs MOON had worked at the Art CONTOIS and Harry SCHRADER homes in Neligh for 31 years, retiring in the spring of 1974. She became ill in August of 1974 and spent several months in hospitals in Neligh and Omaha before moving to New Mexico. Survivors include her husband, Willis, her children, 22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Hilda CARNES of Fort Calhoun and Eva HANSON of Butte. Her parents and a brother, Don preceded her in death.

WILLIS "RED" KING MOON

Funeral services for Willis "Red" MOON of Neligh were held Monday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Neligh. The Rev. Kenneth HOUGLAND officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were O. R. FLENNIKEN, William LYONS Jr, Richard MCDONALD, Ralph SCHRADER, Leroy SHABRAM and Tom A SCHRADER. Willis King moon, son of Ezra and Mary HAWK MOON, was born February 23, 1898 at Newman Grove and died Friday, August 18, 1978, at his home in Neligh at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 25 days. He attended rural school near Tilden. On December 1, 1921 he was married to Gladys BICKFORD at Oakdale to this union four sons and two daughters were born. He served with the U. S. Army during World War I. They moved to Neligh from Oakdale in 1942 and he worked as a truck driver for Schwinck and Pelts for about 30 years. For the past 15 years, he was employed by Contois Motor Co. Survivors include four sons, Dean of Lompoc, California, Vernon of Edmonds, Washington, Dale of Denver, Colorado, and Gary of Columbus, two daughters, Mrs Everett (June) CUDABACK of Raton, New Mexico and Mrs Jack (Shirley) WIERSON of Atlantic, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs Rolland (Fern) LUDWICK of San Francisco, Mrs Hazel HANSEN of Widsor, California, and Mrs Lowell (Lorraine) WAGNER of St Helena, California, 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 1975, four brothers, Roy, Art, Dell and Kenneth and one sister, Florence.

ZELMA ZEE GRAVES MOON

Abridged: Zelma Zee GRAVES was born at Scribner, Nebraska on September 25, 1904 and came to Oakdale with her parents in 1907. Here she spent the greater portion of her life, and graduated from the public schools with the class of 1923. On July 25, 1924 she was united in marriage to Roy C. MOON. She began teaching in the fall of 1924 but contracted typhoid and after intense illness died January 6, 1925. She was the only child of Mr and Mrs W. A. GRAVES, who together with the young husband survive. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Friday afternoon, January 9, conducted by Rev. MEYERS of Lincoln. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.
