Obituary - The Oakdale Sentinel, Thursday, April 8, 1943

GEORGE C. MOORE

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon for George C. MOORE, 73, who died at his home here Friday. He had been in failing health for some time. Rev. Arthur RONEY conducted the services. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery. George Clarence MOORE, son of Jesse MOORE and Emma Elizabeth MOORE, was born on a farm near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on August 5, 1869, and died at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, April 2, 1943, at the age of seventy-three years, seven months and twenty-eight days. When Mr. MOORE was seventeen he walked from his home fifty miles to Manston, Wisconsin, there being employed in a flour mill, following the miller’s trade for the remainder of his life. On October 13, 1897, he was united in marriage to Laura G. AVERY at Moville, Iowa. In September of 1900, Mr. and Mrs. MOORE moved to Ruthton, Minnesota, where Mr. MOORE operated a flourmill. While there, their daughter, Gertrude MOORE, was born. About this time Mr. MOORE joined the Masonic Lodge, to which he remained faithful and helpful member for approximately 43 years. During many of those years he served as an instructor, organizing and building up lodges in Nebraska and Minnesota. Mr. MOORE always remained true to the highest standards of the Masonic Order. In April of 1905, the MOORE family left Minnesota, returning to Iowa where they lived in Arion until 1908 when they removed to Ravenna, Nebraska. In 1915 the family came to Oakdale where Mr. MOORE was employed as head miller of the Galloway Mills, remaining in this position until the mill closed in 1926. They then moved to Neligh where he was head miller in the Neligh Mill until November, 1938, when he retired on account of poor health. They then removed to their home in Oakdale. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; one child, Gertrude OFE; his son-in-law, Frank OFE; one grandchild, Roger OFE; two sisters; two brothers; three nieces; two nephews and a host of friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank OFE and son of Des Moines, IA. arrived last Thursday evening, called here by the critical illness of Mrs. OFE’s father, Geo. C. MOORE, who died Friday morning. Other relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. MOORE’s brother B. L. AVERY and Mrs. Avery and Mr. and Mrs W. R. OWEN of Sioux City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Reed HALEY and Forrest HALEY and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. LINDGREN and Billy LINDGREN of Hot Springs, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph OTT and children of Madison; Mrs Grace THOMAS of Des Moines, Iowa; and Mrs Don BRENNEMAN of Portland, Ore.

JOSEPH BENNETT MOORE

Abridged: Joseph Bennett MOORE was born in Vermont on June 30, 1821 and died at Oakdale on July 25, 1912. On October 2, 1842 he was married to Martha SIMMON and to this union five girls and one son were born. The son and one daughter died in childhood. His wife died in 1905. He is survived by two daughters, twenty-two grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. In 1872, he came to farm south of Tilden with his son-in-law James CRAIG. In 1882, Mr MOORE moved to Oakdale. Funeral services were held Friday, July 26, conducted by Rev. J. W. ZIMMERMAN and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Laura Gertrude (AVERY) MOORE

Abridged: Funeral services for Mrs George C Moore were held at her home here Friday afternoon. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Laura Gertrude Avery was born near Montour, Tuma County, IA on August 10, 1874 and departed July 9, 1951, from this earthly home to her place in the Kingdom of our Lord, made ready for her by our Saviour Jesus Christ. She was the oldest in a family of four sisters and one brother. On October 13, 1897, Laura G. Avery and George C Moore were united in marriage and established their first home at Paulina, IA, where Mr Moore was engaged in the flour milling business. To this union was born one daughter, Gertrude, who lives to mourn the passing of her beloved mother. Mrs Moore was preceded in death by her husband in 1943 and leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs Gertrude Ofe, her son-in-law, Frank, and one grandson, Roger E Ofe, three sisters and one brother and a number of nephews and nieces. Relatives attending were Mr and Mrs Frank Ofe, Mrs Sara McCarter and Mrs Grace Thomas of Des Moines, IA, Mrs Mina Stone of Bussy, IA, Mr and Mrs Roger Ofe of Norfolk, Mr and Mrs Reed Haelley of Hot Springs, SD, Mrs Phil Lindgren of Aberdeen, SD, Mrs Mildred Owen, Byron L Avery, and Chas. Avery of Sioux City, IA, and Mr. and Mrs Adolph Otte and Nellie Jane Otte of Neligh.

Milton Wesley MOORE

Abridged: Milton Wesley Moore was born in Indiana April 9, 1851 and died January 12, 1919. When 2 years of age he removed with his mother to Illinois and at the age of 13 he was left an orphan through the death of his mother. At the age of 24 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Stofer and to them was born one child, Roy Seymour Moore who resides on the farm southwest of Oakdale. Mr Moore came to Nebraska in 1879 and had resided in this state continuously since that date, the greater part of the time being spent in Cass County. A year ago he purchased the Koehler farm southwest of Oakdale and the Obershaw residence property in this city and last March became a resident of this place. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Mrs Moore was a member of the Christian Church of the Masonic fraternity. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home in this city conducted by Rev. J. P. Blakeley and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

MARY E MOORE

Mary E MOORE was born in Beverly, Illinois, May 9, 1853 and departed this life on July 28, 1937. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Milton E MOORE. To this union was born one son, Roy. Soon after her marriage she came with her husband to Nebraska, locating at Murdock and remaining there until 1918 at which time they moved to Oakdale. Her husband preceded her in death in 1919. At an early age she became a Christian, remaining a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Remaining to mourn her departure are her son Roy, his Wife, Ada, of Chadron, two grandsons, Harry of Snyder, NE and Donald of Deadwood, SD, three great grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers, and a host of friends and neighbors. Grandma MOORE will be greatly missed by the entire community where she was greatly loved and respected. Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ Friday afternoon, July 30, and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
