CLARENCE C. MOSS

This community was shocked by the sudden death of C. C. Moss Monday. He died at his home a short time after his morning trip to town for the mail. Funeral services are being held this afternoon, at 2 o’clock at the home and 2:30 at the Methodist church, Rev. C. W. Smith conducting. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Clarence C. MOSS, son of Charles MOSS and Matilda MOSS, was born in Carlinville, Illinois, July 24, 1881 and passed away very suddenly at his home in Oakdale, December 11, 1944. At the age of 5 years his parents with their family moved to a ranch near Amelia, Nebraska where he grew to young manhood. He then took two years work at Fremont Normal after which he entered the railway mail service for nearly thirty-nine years, retiring November 1, 1944. On July 21, 1909 he was united in marriage to Nina SMITH at Inez, Nebraska. They established their home in Oakdale, continuing there throughout the years. He is survived by his wife, daughter Marie MOSS of Austin, Minn., two sons, Ens. Ronald MOSS, USN, Rodney MOSS, Univ. of Nebraska. A step-sister, Etta, of St. Louis, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle SMITH of Atkinson, Nebraska, his brothers John MOSS and Harry MOSS of Spokane, WA., Theodore MOSS of Westfield, NJ. A stepbrother Thomas, and a sister, Mrs. Audrey WHITE, preceded him in death.

Kenneth Edwin MOSS

Kenneth Edwin Moss, aged two years and ten months, son of Mr and Mrs C. C. Moss, died yesterday, January 15, 1920, from whooping cough and complications. Funeral services will be held tomorrow and burial will be made in the Oakdale Cemetery. The bereaved parents have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.

MARIE L MOSS

Graveside services for Marie MOSS, 78, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Oakdale, were held at 1:30 PM Wednesday August 24 at the Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Gary MAIN officiating. Hoepfinger-Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh was in charge of arrangements. Marie L. MOSS, daughter of Clarence and Nina SMITH MOSS, was born June 10, 1910 at Oakdale and died August 20, 1988 at her home in Rochester Minnesota. She was a graduate of Oakdale high-school and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She did graduate work at the university of Minnesota and at the university of Arizona. She taught school in Norfolk and Palisade as well as Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Rockford, Illinois. She also taught in the Monroe Community College in Rochester, N. Y. For the last two years of her life she lived in Rochester Minnesota. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her brother, Rodney MOSS of Prescott, Arizona, one sister-in-law, Genie MOSS of Kentucky, and many nieces and nephews.

NINA BELLE SMITH MOSS

Funeral services for Mrs Nina Belle MOSS of Oakdale were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 15 at the Methodist Church at Oakdale with Rev. Connie J BUEHLER officiating at the service. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Raymond CROSIER, Ralph KINNAN, Earl MCNARE, Irvin WAGNER, Virgil PREVO, and Donald OFE serving as pallbearers. Nina Belle SMITH MOSS, daughter of Seymour and Harriet HARTNELL SMITH, was born at Salem, Wisconsin, February 22, 1886 and died October 12, 1967 at Manor Hall at Tilden at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 20 days. The family moved from Wisconsin to Nebraska when she was an infant. They lived at Loup City for a short time and then moved to Holt County which became the permanent home. She received her education in Holt County rural schools and High School. She continued her education by attending the University of Nebraska where she received a degree as a teacher. She taught in rural schools and later in the Stromsburg and Atkinson school system. On July 21, 1909 she was married to Charles Clarence MOSS at Inez, Nebraska and to this union four children were born. Mrs MOSS had lived in Oakdale for 58 years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and later was active in the Oakdale Methodist Church. She was also a member of the local Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, her husband and one son, Kenneth. Survivors include daughter, Miss Marie L MOSS of Tucson, Arizona, two sons, Ronald of Madisonville, Kentucky and Rodney MOSS of Indianapolis, Indiana, several grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs Stella BEEBE of Chicago.
