William Glen NITZ

Committal services for William Glen Nitz, storekeeper, third class, U. S. Navy, who was killed in action December 10, 1941, were held in Prospect Hill cemetery at Norfolk Monday. Rev. C. T. Hayes was in charge. He was the son of William A. NITZ, now of Long Pine. He was born November 24, 1918 at Fremont. He attended school in Oakdale and graduated with the class of 1938. He attended Wayne College and enlisted in the Navy on September 20, 1939. He was assigned to the USS Otis and was serving temporarily at the supply depot at Cavite, P. I., when the Japs attacked it. He was reported missing in action December 10, 1941, after an enemy air raid on the supply depot at Cavite. He was officially reported dead November 26, 1945. His father, a sister Mrs. Carl (Hope) OLSON of Creighton, and other relatives survive him. His mother died in December 1945.

Mrs. William NITZ

Funeral services for Mrs. William Nitz, 49, were conducted at the Norfolk Home for Funerals Sunday with Rev. HESS in charge. Burial was made in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Nitz died at her home in Long Pine on Thursday December 20, 1945. Viola Alwilda Cloa HANEN was born May 7, 1896, near Madison, Nebraska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel HANEN. She passed away at her home in Long Pine, Nebraska, on December 20, 1945, at the age of forty-nine years, seven months and thirteen days. She grew to womanhood in Madison County where she was married to William NITZ on April 19, 1917, at Norfolk. They made their home in Fremont for four years, then moved to Oakdale where they lived for about eighteen years. They then moved to Long Pine where they were living at the time of her death. A son, William Glen NITZ, has been reported missing in action since March 1942. Those left to mourn are her husband William NITZ, a daughter Mrs. Carl OLSON of Hartington, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel HANEN of Oakdale, two sisters, Mrs. Jess LAKEY of Sidney and Mrs. Glen McCARTNEY of Los Angeles, Ca., four brothers Seth NITZ and Clifford NITZ of Hillsboro, Ore., Elmer NITZ of Meadow Grove and Oliver NITZ of Oakdale.
