Abridged Obituary - The Oakdale Sentinel, Thursday, March 3, 1949

Francis Howard PAYNE

Francis Howard Payne, son of William D. and Rosabella Payne, was born December 14, 1884, at Oakdale, Nebraska, and passed away at his home in Neligh, Nebraska, on February 25, 1949, at the age of sixty-four years, two months and eleven days. He made his home in Oakdale until his marriage. On June 28, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Mayhood at Neligh, Nebraska, at which place they made their home until his demise. They were the parents of two sons. With exception of a few years in the service of the Chicago and northwestern Railroad and employment in Neligh business houses, Mr. Payne followed his trade as painter and decorator. His wife and two sons Ralph M. Payne, Richmond, Ca., Harold F. Payne, Neligh, 2 sisters Mrs. Ida Stringfellow and Mrs. Leo Adams of Oakdale survives him. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Neligh Monday afternoon, Rev. Lowell Jones officiating. Burial was made in Laurel Hills Cemetery at Neligh.

William L PAYNE

William L PAYNE was born in Washington, D. C. On June 25, 1859 and departed this life on February 24, 1926 after an illness of less than one half hour. He was united in marriage to Rosabella FRANKLIN on January 10, 1880. Soon after their marriage they moved to Atlantic, Iowa whey they remained a short time coming from there to Neligh. From Neligh they came to oakdale which has been their residence for the past 43 years. He is survived by his wife and three children, one son, Frank of Neligh and two daughters, Mrs Ida STRINGFELLOW and Mrs May ADAMS of Oakdale. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one brother, C. T. PAYNE of Lincoln and one sister Mrs Flora REAGON of Washington, D. C. He also leaves a host of friends by who he will be greatly missed. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Saturday afternoon, February 27, conducted by Rev. SCOTT and assisted by Rev KAUFFROUTH. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
