GENE ALBERT PETERS

Funeral services for Gene PETERS, 54, of Grand Island, formerly of Oakdale , were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, at the Oakdale Church of Christ with Roger SLOAN and Alvin SCHWARTING officiating. Susan BABCOCK and Barbara CHILDS provided piano and organ music for the services. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry HAASE, Robbie PETERS, Lee KLING, Lyle COOVER, Gerald MAPLE and Mervin HAASE. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 172 and VFW Post 5287 of Neligh. Gene Albert PETERS, son of Albert and Lora KENNEDY PETERS, was born December 1, 1934, at Neligh and died December 30, 1988 at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island. PETERS lived most of his life in the Oakdale community, except for a short period when he lived in Stanton and Pender. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. PETERS was an auto mechanic. In July 1968, he was severely injured in a stock car accident and had spent most of the time since the accident in the Veterans Home in Grand Island. Preceding him in death were two brothers and one sister. Survivors include his parents, Albert and Lora PETERS of Oakdale; one son, Ronald of Omaha; three daughters, Mrs Brock (Nancy) COOVER of Neligh, Mrs James (Carolyn) TULLER of Omaha, and Mrs Shawn (Becky) SCHINDLER of Blair; three brothers, Robert of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Clarence and Richard, both of Oakdale; five sisters, Mrs Albert (Delores) EVARETTS of Aurora, Mrs Leland (Joan) KLING of Omaha, Mrs Mervin (Doris) HAASE of Howells, Mrs Carl (Lois) BUCK Sr. of Aurora and Mrs Vernon (Shirley) BRANDT of Neligh; and four grandchildren.

JAMES R PETERS

Funeral services for James R. PETERS, 22, Oakdale, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale with Rev. Gary MAIN officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ron MILLIKEN, Tony SCHWARTING, Shane SLEISTER, Rick FIEBELKORN, Chris HAINES and Ronald PETERS. PETERS was born October 22, 1967 to Stanley and Leona (BROWN) PETERS in Neligh and was a 1986 graduate of Neligh-Oakdale High School. He had worked at at a sale barn in Columbus. Survivors include his mother of Richland; stepfather, Richard PETERS of Oakdale; sisters, Mrs Rodney ROLAND of Norfolk and Sara PETERS of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by his father. PETERS died Thursday, August 9, 1990, when he was struck by semi-trailer in Oakdale.

LARRY D. PETERS

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at the Methodist Church at Oakdale for PFC Larry PETERS, 20, of Oakdale with Alvin SCHWARTING officiating at the service. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery and serving as active pallbearers were Bruce OFE, Joe EVANS, Robin FLETCHER, Norm NELSON, John EVANS and Thomas DIETZ. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas OFE, Robert HOEFER, Dean HAWLEY, David SMITH, Butch OBERSHAW and Steve CROSIER. Born May 31, 1952 at Tilden, he was the son of Mr and Mrs Albert PETERS. He was found dead, May 5, 1973, in Germany where he was stationed with the armed forces. Peters was a 1971 graduate of Neligh High School and during his senior year was state wrestling champion in his weight class. Survivors include his parents, five sisters, Mrs Leland (Joan) KLING of Omaha, Mrs Albert (Deloris) EVERETTS of Beemer, Mrs Mervin (Doris) HAASE of Howells, Mrs Duane (Lois) MILLIKEN of Oakdale and Mrs Leonard (Shirley) HAINES of Neligh, four brothers, Bob of Council Bluffs, Gene of Grand Island, Claence of Beemer and Richard of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion and a brother, Stanley.

LORA L KENNEDY PETERS

Funeral services for Lora L PETERS, 84, of Oakdale, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 27, 1991 at the Church of Christ in Oakdale. Alvin SCHWARTING officiated. Interment was at the Oakdale Cemetery with Robert PETERS, Marcus PETERS, Chris HAINES, Dan HASSE, Tim HASSE, and Ron MILLIKEN as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons. Arrangements were made by the Hoepfinger-Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh. Mrs PETERS died Sunday, December 22, 1991. She was born December 3, 1907 at Skimore, Missouri, the daughter of William and Emma (WING) KENNEDY. On January 30, 1928 she married Albert PETERS at Neligh. They farmed near Neligh until 1959 when they moved to Oakdale. Mrs PETERS moved to Neligh Nursing Center two years ago. Survivors include her husband of Neligh, three sons, Robert of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Richard of Oakdale and Clarence, five daughters, Deloris EVARETTS of Aurora, Joan KLING of Omaha, Doris HASSE of Howells, Lois BUCK of Fullerton, and Shirley BRANDT of Neligh, 32 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, on daughter, three sons and seven grandchildren.

STANLEY JAMES PETERS

Funeral services were held Sunday October 5 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church at Oakdale for Stanley James PETERS of Oakdale who died Friday October 3, 1969 in a Norfolk Hospital where he was taken with injuries received in an automobile accident September 16 west of Tilden on Highway 275. The Rev. Connie J BUEHLER of Elgin officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ivan KINNAN, Irvie SCHWARTING, Donald OFE, Ralph KINNAN, Robert SHARPLES and Donald POLLOCK. Stanley James PETERS, son of Albert and Lora KENNEDY PETERS was born November 20, 1943 at Neligh. He grew up on a farm near Neligh and attended a rural school and Oakdale and Neligh High Schools. The PETERS family moved to Oakdale about 10 years ago. On March 17, 1967 he was married to Leona BROWN and one son, JAMES, was born to them. Survivors include his wife, Leona, son, JAMES, parents, Mr and Mrs Albert PETERS, five brothers, Robert of Council Bluffs, Gene of Grand Island, Clarence of San Jose, California, Richard and Larry at home, five sisters, Mrs Albert (Delores) EVARRETTS of Beemer, Mrs Leland (Joan) KLING of Omaha, Mrs Mervin (Doris) HAASE of Howells, Mrs Duane (Lois) MILLIKEN of Oakdale and Mrs Leonard (Shirley) HAINES of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marian.
