Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-February 23, 1923

HENRY D RICHARDSON

Following an illness of four days D. H. RICHARDSON died Tuesday, February 20, 1923 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Kate MCFARLANE in Woonsocket, SD aged 89 years and 6 months. Services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. WILCOX of the M. E. Church and the remains were shipped to Oakdale for burial, arriving here yesterday afternoon. The burial service was read by Rev. C. L. MEYERS. The deceased was born at Castile, NY, August 6, 1833. Early in life he removed to Iowa and in 1883 he came to Nebraska, locating twelve miles west of Elgin. In 1915 he sold his farm and purchased a home in Oakdale. Upon the death of his wife a year later he gave up his home and went to live with his daughters, alternating as his fancy directed between points in Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota. Mr RICHARDSON took an active part in the early development to the community west of Elgin. He was a good neighbor, an upright citizen and a steadfast friend. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church. Five daughters survive, Mrs Kate MCFARLANE of Woonsocket, SD, Mrs E. M. ENGLISH of Marshall, MN, Mrs F. M. TINDALE, Mrs P. O’MARA of Brownsville, OR, Mrs E. W. COWLES of Altoona, WI. The first two accompanied the remains of their father to Oakdale.

Marie Louise (WOODARD) RICHARDSON

Abridged: The death of Mrs H. D. Richardson occurred at her home in Oakdale shortly after midnight, Wednesday, May 3, 1916. Marie Louise Woodard was born at LaPorte, Indiana, November 22, 1837. Early in life she removed to Wisconsin here she received a liberal education and later taught school. Removing to Iowa she fitted herself for the profession trained nurse and followed that work until the time of her marriage in 1884.She came to Nebraska and settled on a homestead in Wheeler County. The duties of farm life became too burdensome and with her husband she removed to Oakdale last fall. She is survived by her husband, three sisters and two brothers, Mrs P. O. Bouldin and A. A. Woodard of Dos Palos, California, Mrs J. B. Daggett of Garrison, Iowa, William Woodard of Elgin, Nebraska and Miss M. NM. Woodard of Webster city, Iowa. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. M. Steele, assisted by Rev. E. A. Fletcher, were held at the home Thursday afternoon and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
