Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-April 2, 1898

AMARETTA JANE BEAN ROWE

Died at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska of heart failure, March 23, 1898, Mrs Amaretta Jane ROWE. Amaretta Jane BEAN was born in Bethel, Maine, September 16, 1839. She was married to Ashbury T. ROWE, November 24, 1864 at Portland, Maine. They moved to Schuyler, Nebraska in 1869 and lived there for 15 years, then 2 years in Platte County and the remaining 12 years in Oakdale. There were 5 children born to them, 3 of which remain, Howard A., Sarah A., and Amy B. She first united with the Second Congregational Church of Bethel in 1865 and since which time she has been connected with some church. The funeral service took place from the Presbyterian Church, Friday, March 25, 1898 at 2 p.m. Rev. Sharpless of Neligh preached the sermon.


Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-October 12, 1923

ASBURY T ROWE

Abridged: Following an illness of long duration and slow decline, Asbury T ROWE passed away at the home of his daughter, Sarah A CARTER, in Sonoma, California, Monday evening, September 24, 1923. He was born in West Bethel, Oxford County, Maine, February 4, 1839. In 1862 he answered the call of his country for volunteers and entered the 23rd Maine Regiment, Co. B, being stationed in Washington as a guard over the capitol. Returning home he married Ameretta J. BEAN on November 24, 1864 at Portland, Maine. He filed on a homestead claim near Schuyler, NE in April 1869, where he took his wife and two children, Marion and HOWARD. Three more daughters were born there: Sarah A, Clara C, and Amy B. Marion died in about 1884. Shortly after this time Clara died. Mr ROWE then came to Oakdale and engaged in the mercantile business. After about 15 years he was appointed as postmaster and served in that position until retiring in 1916. His wife, Ameretta, died in March 1898. He served on several local boards and civil positions. He was a prominent Odd Fellow and loyal member of the GAR. Funeral services were held at the CARTER home, Sonoma, Wednesday afternoon, September 26. The body was taken to San Francisco for cremation and the ashes were brought to Oakdale and interred in the beautiful Oakdale Cemetery on October 11.


Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-January 7, 1888

CLARA C ROWE

Died Sunday, January 1, 1888, of congestion of the bowels, Clara C., daughter of Mr and Mrs A. T. ROWE, in her 11th year. The funeral services were held by Rev. WILSON at the Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The public schools and the I. O. of G.T. attended the funeral in a body, she being a pupil in the school and an exemplary member of the Lodge. In the short year that she had been in our midst she had made scores of friends that will ever hold dear the memory of the one who was struck down so suddenly and taken from our midst.
