Our Mother'S Chair Is Vacant

Our mother's chair is vacant now.

Her work on earth is done.

But memories of her wondrous life

Will ne'er from us be gone.

Oh, Mother, I remember now

Your laughter and your song,

That eased the burden of our work

And shortened days so long.

Your prides were great, Oh Mother dear,

Especially those ones,

That made you strive incessantly

For daughter and for sons.

With your kindness, strength and helpfulness

Your character so true,

If there be one for God to bless,

Yes, Mother, it is you.

We shan't forget you Mother,

As through our lives we plod.

We're happy in the thought that you

Are both with us and God.

Our Mother's chair is vacant now,

We cannot see or greet her.

Her task is finished here below,

She’s making heaven sweeter."
