CHRISTIAN FREDERICK SCHUCHARDT

Abridged: Christian Frederick SCHUCHARDT was born June 21, 1861 at Fox Lake, WI and departed this life at his home on October 10, 1936. He left home when about fourteen years of age, working here and there, finally coming to Oakdale in 1878. He secured employment with the Chicago and Northwestern railroad until 1910 when he moved to his farm southwest of Oakdale. His first wife preceded him in death, leaving him with an infant daughter, Nina. He was united in marriage to Emma RETZLAFF of Oakdale on December 5, 1890 and to this union were born eight children, seven sons and one daughter. When his health failed six years ago, he underwent an operation at Mayo Brothers Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was a good husband and father. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and children, Irene who is at home, Chester and Raymond of Elgin, Wilbur of Neligh, Frank of Alliance, Ralph of Omaha, Warren of Oakdale, Robert of Payette, ID and Nina SIEMS of Algona, WA. Also one brother, William of Oshkosh, WI, twenty-three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Emma (RETZLAFF) SCHUCHARDT

Abridged: Funeral services for Mrs Emma Schuchardt were held Sunday at the Neligh Methodist Church. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Emma Retzlaff, daughter of John and Elvina Retzlaff, was born at West Point, Nebraska on January 29, 1871. At the age of twelve, she came by covered wagon with her parents to Oakdale. She received her education in the Oakdale schools. She was united in marriage with Christopher Schuchardt on December 5, 1890. During the time of the family residence in Oakdale, Mr Schuchardt worked for the railroad. In 1910 the family moved to their farm where they lived until 1936. After the death of her husband, she moved to Neligh where she resided until her death on October 1, 1954. Mr and Mrs Schuchardt reared nine children, Nina (Mrs Frank Siems) of Seattle, WA, Frank of Alliance, Chester and Wilbur of Elgin, Warren, now deceased, Ralph and Robert of CA, Irene (Mrs Clifford Von Riesen) of Fort Morgan, CO. Besides her immediate family, she leaves 3 brothers, Frank of Weiser, ID, Harry of Stevens, SD, and John who lives in Washington. Her sisters are Mrs Martha Manleko of Mohave, CA, Mrs Rose Ralston of Norfolk, Mrs Kate Bowman and Mrs Hannah Wilkinson of Oakdale and Mrs Minnie Pratt of Neligh. She had 26 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

WILBUR EUGENE SCHUCHARDT

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., February 3, 1990 at the Oakdale Church of Christ for Wilbur Eugene SCHUCHARDT, 83. Roger SLOAN officiated at the service and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Bill and Steve WIND, Scott and Brian LINDELL, Kerry, Kevin, and Kurtis KLEINSCHMIT. SCHUCHARDT died at Antelope Memorial Hospital on January 30, 1990. He was born to Chris and Emma (RETZLAFF) SCHUCHARDT on May 5, 1906 in Oakdale. He grew to manhood on his parents farm, attended District No 41 School and Elgin High School. On November 7, 1929 he married Dorothy L NIES of Oakdale. The couple lived in Neligh until 1937 when they moved to a farm northeast of Elgin where they resided until his death. He was known for his extensive gardening on his farm. Survivors include his wife of Elgin, three daughters, Mrs Bob (Cleo) WIND of Norfolk, Mrs Charles (Marilyn) LINDELL of West Point and Mrs Larry (Barbara) KLEINSCHMIT of Norfolk, a brother, Bob SCHUCHARDT of Arizona, a sister, Mrs Irene VONRIESEN of Ft Morgan, Colorado, 10 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Chester, Warren, Frank, Raymond and Ralph, and a half-sister, Nina SIEMS. Huffman’s Brooks Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
