Adeline (BROWN) SHAIN

Adeline Brown was born at Brandenburg, Kentucky, August 5, 1841. On September 3, 1867, she was united in marriage to D. F. Shain and to them were born twelve children, nine of whom survive. Mrs Shain came to Antelope County in 1883 and except for a short period spent in her native state, this has since been her home. For some time she had been in declining health due to the infirmities of age and on Thursday morning, April 26, 1917, she passed from this life. The deceased joined the Baptist Church in girlhood and remained in that faith until her death. Her fine spirit of hospitality, her unselfish generosity, her tireless energy and resourcefulness in rearing and educating her large family and serving those around her, endeared her to all who knew her. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the West Cedar Valley Church, conducted by Rev. James Adams of Elgin and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. There was a large attendance of old neighbors and friends.

Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-December 21, 1917

RICHARD H SHAIN

A message from Paris, Idaho, announced the death of R. H. SHAIN on Sunday, December 16, 1917. The remains were brought to Oakdale for burial and funeral services were held at the Methodist Church this afternoon. Richard H SHAIN was born in Meade County, Kentucky, February 18, 1874 and came to with his parents to Nebraska when 18 years of age, and from that time until about ten years ago, Antelope County was his home. During 1903 and 1904 he was in a partnership with A. H. NORWOOD in the harness, hardware and implement business in Oakdale. He sold out to engage in other work and for a couple of years dealt in thoroughbred horses. About ten years ago he bought the territory of Boone County for the sale of Watkins preparations and did a good business. A few years ago he went west, finally locating in Idaho. Dick had many friends who will cherish a lively recollection of his many virtues, erasing from memory’s page, so far as possible, recollections of his imperfections. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, one son, seven sisters and one brother. To the bereaved wife and children and sisters and brothers, the Sentinel extends sincere sympathy. Dick was our friend and now that he is gone, we regret the failure to deliver flowers were might have given him while he could appreciate them.
