Nancy (RAGLAND) SHEETS Obituary

Nancy E. Sheets, born "Della Nancy Emily Clara Ragland", daughter of John and Ada (Warn) Ragland was born May 7th, 1899 on her uncles farm near Creighton, Ne. Nancy passed away Dec. 25th 1991 at the Cherry County Hospital at the age of 92 years 7 Months and 18 days.

Her early childhood was spent in Boone, Antelope, and Hooker counties. After graduation from the Mullen, Ne. High School on May 11 1918, Nancy attended Grand Island Business College, then began teaching school in Antelope County, Nebraska. Nancy was united in marriage to William Ray Sheets on September 24, 1921 at Neligh, Nebraska. They resided on the Sheets family farm Northwest of Elgin where six of their seven children were born. In 1937 they moved to the Crozier place west of Elgin where another son was born. They then moved to a place between Elgin and Neligh. Later moving to the Spittler place south of Ewing. After the older boys left for the service, they moved to Neligh and then Valentine, Ne in 1951, where Nancy had an opening to teach rural school. Nancy taught several schools in Cherry County and Todd County, Sd before retiring in 1968. Nancy stayed active until strokes and loss of both legs lest her bedfast. She entered the Cherry County Hospital on Dec. 10, 1991 this would be her last visit there. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Ray, two infant daughters, and one son Robert. Brothers, Dan Ragland and John Ragland, three sisters, Maud Clary, Dora Bergman and Vina Madden. Nancy is survived by three sons, Myron L. Sheets of Omaha, Ne, William D. Sheets and James R. Sheets of Valentine, Ne, one daughter, Marilyn J. Ohlmann of Crookston, Ne, fifteen Grandchildren and twenty Great Grandchildren, one brother William H. Ragland of Colorado Springs, CO, and one sister Ada Lauderdale of Oxnard CA, many nieces nephews and friends.

Nancy was laid to rest in the family plot at Park Cemetery, west of Elgin, Ne Dec. 28, 1991. Huffman-Brooke funeral service was in charge.

Robert Henry SHEETS Obituary

Robert Henry Sheets, son of William Ray and Nancy Emily (Ragland) Sheets was born on the Crozier place, South West of Elgin, NE. May 16 1939 and departed this life at his home in Omaha NE April 11, 1985, at the age of 45 years 10 months and 25 days. Bob grew up in the Elgin and Neligh areas and attended the Neligh public schools before moving to Valentine, NE with the family in 1951. He graduated from Valentine Rural High School with the class of 1957. Bob attended Chadron State College (on a football scholarship) before his entrance in the U.S. Army on July 28 1958. While on active duty he served as a Med-Tech. in Germany. He was discharged June 30 1964. After his return to civilian life he again enrolled in Chadron State College, where he met and married Judy Kaye Vontour of Alliance, NE. They were married at Winner South Dakota on June 24 1962. To this union one son (Mark Elliot Sheets) was born. Bob studied Medical Law at Creighton University for one year and taught Lab. Tech. classes at Blair. He was a graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He worked as a Lab.Tech. at Veterans, St. Elizabeth and Bryan Memorial Hospitals in Lincoln, NE and as a Med.Tech. at the University Hospital, Omaha until his health failed in the summer of 1984. Survivors include his former wife. Judy, His son Mark Elliot, his mother Nancy E. Sheets of Valentine, three brothers, Myron LeRoy of Omaha, James Ray and William Darrell Sheets of Valentine, NE, one sister, Marylyn Joyce Ohlmann of Crookston, NE, plus a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Alice Marie and a baby girl who died in infancy. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday April 15, 1985 from the Huffma-Brooks Chapel in Elgin NE with the Rev. Rose Richardson officiating. Interment was a Park Cemetery in the family plot. Pallbearers were Michael, Douglas, Randy and Richard Sheets and Todd and Terence Ohlmann. The American Legion Post 229 of Elgin was in charge of the Military Rites.

William SHEETS

Valentine - Services for William D. Sheets, 69, Valentine were Thursday, July 24, at the Presbyterian Church here. The Rev. Jimmy Root officiated with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Military honors were by the Cherry County Veterans. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine was in charge of arrangements. He died Monday, July 21, 1997. The son of William and Nancy (Ragland) Sheets was born Nov 10, 1927, near Clearwater. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Japan. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Korea, Japan and Turkey. He was discharged in 1954. In 1956, he began employment with Northwestern Bell. On March 17, 1956, he married Sally Lamoureaux at Valentine. He was a life member of Disabled Americans Veterans Chapter 39 and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of the VFW and steward for the Communications Workers of America. Survivors include his wife; daughters and spouses, Joyce and Jim Perrett of Perrytown, Texas, and Lois and Richard Schneider of Kilgore; sons and spouses, Richard and Rita of Aberdeen, S.D., Randy and Laura of Booker Texas, and Matthew of Valentine; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; brothers Myron of Omaha and James of Valentine; and sister Marylynn Olhmann of Illinois. He was preceded in death by one brother and one infant sister.
