EMMA IRENE SHENEFELT

Funeral services for Mrs Emma Irene SHENEFELT of Oakdale were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Methodist Church in Oakdale with the Rev. Connie J. BUEHLER officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery and serving as pallbearers were Ivan KINNAN, Louis KINNAN, Gwyn WINGATE, Ralph KINNAN, Orville I. SHERMAN and Irvin Wagner. Emma Irene SALA, daughter of Edmond Q and Affa Etta RICHMOND SALA, was born March 27, 1883 at West Point, Iowa and died July 21, 1971 at the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 24 days. On December 12, 1901 she was united in marriage with Thomas G Hayes and to this union one child, Elmer, was born. They made their home in South Dakota. On February 12, 1925, she was married to D. I. SHENEFELT and they made their home in Omaha until 1930 at which time they moved to Oakdale. Survivors include three grandchildren, two brothers, Ed and Raymond, and three sisters, Winnie, Maggie and Iva. Mrs SHENEFELT was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers and her son.

DORSEY LINCOLN SHENEFELT

D. L. SHENEFELT, 78, Oakdale banker and prominent pioneer businessman of this territory, died at his home here Saturday morning. Rev. C. W. Smith conducted funeral services at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. Internment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Dorsey Lincoln SHENEFELT was born February 20, 1866, near Huntington, Pa. His father was A. B. SHENEFELT and his mother Nancy Rose Shenefelt nee POLLOCK. The Shenefelts came direct from Germany in the sixteen hundreds. There were nine brothers and in the old country they were bell makers by trade. His father died in 1882, ten years after his mother had taken the children to New York City and left him behind, due to religious differences. The deceased passed away quietly in his sleep at his home Saturday morning, March 11, 1944, at the age of seventy-eight years and twenty days. On February 12, 1925, he was united in marriage to Emma HAYES in a Council Bluffs Baptist church. They came to Oakdale in 1927 and he established the First National Bank of Oakdale about sixteen years ago of which he was president until the time of his death. Surviving him are his wife; four children, Mrs. Leona BEST, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Helen RACKERBY, Los Angeles, Ca., Victor SHENEFELT of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dorsey SHENEFELT Jr. of Neligh; one grandson’ other relatives and many friends. Note: The above named children are of a previous marriage.
