Abraham Daniel SIMMONS

Abridged: Abraham Daniel Simmons, son of Sylvester and Lydia Fisher Simmons, was born March 1, 1874 at Eldora, Harding county, Iowa. He departed life June 3, 1952 in his home in Oakdale at the age of 78. He came to Nebraska at the age of twelve settling in Dixon County. On September 17, 1914, he was united in marriage to Mrs Georgia Chase Jensen. There were two sons and one daughter born to them, Lyle, John and Vivian. The family lived most of their life in the Star Community and moved to Oakdale five years ago. Abe was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Lyle of Norfolk and John of Oakdale and one daughter, Vivian Briggs of Oakdale, two stepsons, Arthur Jensen of Meadow Grove and Robert Jensen of Pueblo, CO, thirteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Grace Voseler of Wann and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Elvina WAGNER SIMMONS

Rev. Lowell Jones conducted funeral services for Mrs. Elvina Simmons, who died Monday following a lingering illness, at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Elvina Wagner was born April 17, 1875, near Dewey, Illinois. In 1855 she moved with her family to Nebraska where they settled in St. Clair Valley. In 1898 the family moved to a farm south of Oakdale. She was married on March 18, 1902 to John Horace Simmons at the home of her parents. With her husband she lived on their farm south of Oakdale until he passed away, November 9, 1936, after which she moved to Oakdale where she had since resided. One son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Simmons, but he died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons adopted another son, Robert, at the age of six. Mrs. Simmons had been ill for about two years, and had passed away early Monday morning, October 25, 1948, at the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of seventy-three years, six months and eight days. She had been a member of the United Brethren church of Oakdale since 1926. Surviving her are her foster son, Robert Simmons, and her brother Edward C. Wagner, both of Oakdale, and several nieces and nephews. Her father and mother, two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Simmons was a courageous woman, loving her home and family and respected by her many neighbors and friends.

Mrs. EMMA E. SIMMONS

Mrs. Emma E. SIMMONS, 62, died November 2, 1942, at Iowa Falls, Iowa. The body was brought here for burial last Thursday. She was born in Oakdale and lived most of her life in Nebraska.


Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-January 22, 1915

JAMES SIMMONS

James SIMMONS was born in Hardin County, Iowa, May 3, 1879 and died on January 18, 1914. With his parents he came to Dixon, County, Nebraska in 1882 and in the following year the family removed to Antelope County, locating north of Neligh. In 1893, they moved to the vicinity of Oakdale. The deceased was married to Miss Emma BATTERSON in 1904 and the first three years of married life was spent in this County. The interval of 1908-1914, Mr SIMMONS spent in Custer County, Nebraska, Idaho and Texas in an effort to find a suitable location. Last summer he returned to Oakdale and in early fall accepted the position of foreman of DIERKS ranch in the southern part of Holt County. He is survived by his wife, two children, four brothers and one sister. The remains were brought to Oakdale Wednesday morning and taken to the home of the SIMMONS brothers, southwest of town where funeral services were held Thursday afternoon and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

John HORACE SIMMONS

Abridged: John Horace SIMMONS was born December 2, 1876, at Hubbard, Iowa and passed away November 9, 1936 at an Omaha Hospital. He came with his father to Dixon County from Iowa about 1880 and in 1882 the family settled on a homestead near Royal, NE. Here he grew to manhood and on March 18, 1892 he was married to Miss Elvina WAGNER at the WAGNER home south of Oakdale. One child was born to this union, which died in infancy. Mr and Mrs SIMMONS adopted Robert SIMMONS when he was six years of age. In 1901 they bought a farm south of Oakdale. John was a loving husband and especially fond of children. He was the third child of a family of six, five boys and one girl. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, a son, Robert, two brothers, Edward and Abraham, one sister, Mrs Grace VOSLER of Wann, NE, thirteen nieces and nephews and many friends. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Lyle LeRoy SIMMONS

Lyle LeRoy, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Simmons, died February 2, 1948, the date of his birth. Rev. H. G. Langley conducted brief services at the Abe Simmons home Wednesday, February 4, and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. His parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Simmons of Oakdale and Mr. and MRS. WYMAN Wiles of Clearwater survive the infant.
