STRINGFELLOW

The youngest child of Mr and Mrs J. S. STRINGFELLOW aged about nine months was buried in the Oakdale Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Espicopal Church. Died April 14, 1896.

CLARENCE DEWITT STRINGFELLOW

Abridged: Clarence Dewitt STRINGFELLOW was born October 12, 1889 at the STRINGFELLOW farm home east of Oakdale and passed away February 9, 1934. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. S. STRINGFELLOW and grew to manhood here. He was united in married to Emma A KINNAN on June 10, 1913 and to this union two children were born, Marjorie Pauline and Robert RUSSELL. Clare, as he was known, was in ill health for a number of years before his death. Survivors include his wife, two children, his father, step-mother, four sisters, Mrs Jennie CUNNINGHAM of Oakdale, Mrs Ella ROBERTS of Neligh, Mrs Nanette WIEST of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Mrs Edna ROSE of Hollywood, CA, and four brothers, Charles E. of Vancouver, WA, J I of Oakdale, Austin J of Oroville, Ca and Leroy W of Haverhill, MA. His mother, one sister, and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the United Brethren Church and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ELIZA A. HUGHES STRINGFELLOW

Abridged: Eliza A. HUGHES was born in Gallia County, Ohio, October 7, 1851. She was married to January 1, 1873 to JAMES S. STRINGFELLOW. To this union were born eleven children. All grew to adulthood except one, Lenora Merle, who died in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs Jennie A. CUNNINGHAM of Clearwater, Laura E. THOMPSON of Randolph, Nannette V. WIEST of Oakdale, Edna B STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale, Charles E STRINGFELLOW of Vancouver, Washington, William F STRINGFELLOW of Arlington, J. Irving STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale, Austin J STRINGFELLOW of Lovalton, California, Leroy W STRINGFELLOW of Boston, Massachusetts, and Clarence D STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale. She came to Antelope County in 1884. They moved to Oakdale in 1902. She died at a Tilden hospital on October 2, 1912. Her remains were laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery on October 5, by Rev. G. W. SYNDER.

EMMA A. KINNAN STRINGFELLOW

Services for Emma STRINGFELLOW, 95, of Neligh, formerly of Oakdale, were held at 11 a.m. at the Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden with Rev. Michael MONTGOMERY officiating. Lucille WINDER was organist, accompanying Jolene MENNENGA, soloist. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dick KINNAN, Gene KINNAN, Floyd KINNAN, Bruce PITZER, Dale MCCAIN and Bob BEESON. Emma A STRINGFELLOW, daughter of Thomas and Martha KINNAN, was born November 22, 1892 at Oakdale, and died January 5, 1988 at Antelope Memorial Hospital. She attended Peru State Teachers College and taught elementary school in Antelope County. In 1913, she married Clarence STRINGFELLOW. He died in 1934. Mrs STRINGFELLOW continued to make her home in Oakdale until becoming a resident of the Neligh Nursing Home. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; five brothers, Charlie, Jim, George, Ferd and Jess KINNAN; and three sisters, Alice WELLS, Fanny MILLER and Etta KINNAN. Survivors include one son, Robert of Kansas City, Missouri , one daughter, Pauline BRONOWSKI of Omaha, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one brother, Harry E. KINNAN, a resident of the Neligh Nursing Center.

ESTHER SIMMONS STRINGFELLOW

Funeral services for Mrs Esther STRINGFELLOW were held Saturday, August 19 at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church with the Rev. Connie J. BUEHLER officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Bob ADAMS, Kenneth Paul, Melvin ADAMS, Melvin MARSH, Orville SHERMAN, and Gerald ADAMS serving as pallbearers. Mrs Esther Rosamond SIMMONS STRINGFELLOW was born near Dallas City, Illinois, January 20, 1874 and died Thursday, August 17, 1967 at Antelope Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 28 days. In 1882 she moved with her parents to Antelope County. She received her education in the rural and public schools of the county and Gates Academy at Neligh. She taught school several years before her marriage. On November 5, 1893 she was married to Charley B. BEER and to this union three children were born. Mr BEER died March 8, 1925 at Petersburg and she was appointed to fill his unexpired term as postmaster. July 7, 1926 she was married to James S STRINGFELLOW of Oakdale and they made their home at Oakdale. Mrs STRINGFELLOW had been a member of the Methodist Church since 1897 and was a charter member of the Oakdale Woman’s Club and Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include her three children, Mrs Vera C EVANS of Oakdale, Mrs Enos ADAMS of Neligh, and Raymond L BEER of Bristow, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and 10 stepchildren.

IDA FRANKLIN PAYNE STRINGFELLOW

Tuesday afternoon at the Oakdale Methodist Church, funeral services were held for Mrs Ida STRINGFELLOW, 74, who died suddenly at her home Saturday, October 20, 1956. The Rev. E. HART officiated and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Ida Franklin PAYNE was born January 9, 1882 to William L and Rosabella PAYNE in Atlantic, Iowa. She moved with her family to Neligh in October 1883 and early in 1884 they moved to Oakdale where she had been in continuous residence except for a brief time after her marriage when she lived on the STRINGFELLOW farm east of Oakdale. She graduated from the Oakdale school in 1900 and taught school one year in the OFE district and one year in the Oakdale public schools before her marriage to John Irving STRINGFELLOW, May 28, 1902. For many years she was active in civic affairs and served as president of the board of the Oakdale school system. She was affiliated with the Oakdale Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebeccas; the Oakdale Woman’s Club, the Business Women’s Club and the WSCS. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs A. J. COFFMAN of Chicago, three sons, J. M. STRINGFELLOW of Kansas City, Kansas, and Francis and Glenn STRINGFELLOW of Washington, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs Leo ADAMS of Oakdale. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Mrs Muriel TYLER. Pallbearers were Dr F. B. GARRISON, W. H. MORRIS, Guy TAYLOR, Glen THOMAS, Jack BETTENDORF and Harry COOPER.

JAMES STUART STRINGFELLOW

Funeral services for J. S. STRINGFELLOW, long time resident of Oakdale who died in a Norfolk hospital Friday, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Walter JEWETT of Norfolk in charge and Rev. L. A. REGER assisting. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. James Stuart STRINGFELLOW was born in Jackson, Ohio, September 16, 1849. After 56 years of residence in Oakdale and near vicinity, he received his Heavenly Crown on July 12, 1940, at the age of ninety years, ten months and twenty-six days. Born on a farm, he remained a farmer through most of his active life, though he knew some experience, first as a brakeman on the railroad when a young man in Ohio, and later as a purchaser and shipper of livestock and a dealer in hardware and farm implements in Oakdale. His first visit to Nebraska was in 1877, when he came to purchase land. Seven years later in 1884, he and his family moved to Nebraska and took up residence on the farm in Antelope county, east of Oakdale. Some years later residence was on the farm closer to Oakdale, and known as "The Fairchild’s Place." He moved to Oakdale in 1901, where he first participated in business and later lived in active retirement. He was a charter member of Oakdale Lodge of Odd Fellows, No. 113 and also a member of Oakdale Lodge of Rebekahs No. 99. He was a member to the town board, Oakdale school board and cemetery association and for some years has been a director of the local bank. While still in Ohio he was married to Eliza Ann HUGHES, January 1, 1873, with whom he lived for 39 years until her passing, October 2, 1912. To this union eleven children were born, all growing to maturity except LeNora Merle STRINGFELLOW, who died in infancy. Other children preceding him in death, William Franklin STRINGFELLOW, Charles DeWitt STRINGFELLOW and John Irving STRINGFELLOW. Those surviving are: Mrs. Jennie Alice CUNNINGHAM of Oakdale, Charles Everett STRINGFELLOW of Vancouver, Washington, Mrs. Laura Ellen ROBERTS of Neligh, Mrs. Nannette Viola WIEST of Mason City, Iowa, Austin James STRINGFELLOW of Oroville, California, LeRoy Walter STRINGFELLOW, Haverhill, Mass., Mrs. Edna Blanche ROSE of Ojai, California. On July 7, 1926, He was married to Mrs Ester ROSAMOND-BEER of Petersburg, who survives him. His stepchildren are: Mrs Vera EVANS of Oakdale; Mrs Murl ADAMS of Neligh and Raymond BEER of Crosby, Missouri

JOHN I STRINGFELLOW

Abridged: J. I. STRINGFELLOW, son of James S and Eliza A STRINGFELLOW, was born in Jackson County, Ohio on July 23, 1879 and passed away peacefully at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska on July 6, 1936, at the age of fifty six years, eleven months and thirteen days, after an illness of three weeks. He came to Nebraska with his parents when five years of age and lived with them on a farm east of Oakdale. In May 1902 he was married to Ida F. PAYNE of Oakdale. He leaves to mourn him his wife, three sons, Jesse M of Albion, Francis L of Neligh and Glenn I of Oakdale, two daughters, Mrs Gerrit V TYLER of Spalding and Mrs Amos J COFFMAN of Ann Arbor, Michigan, his aged father and his stepmother; three brothers, Charles E of Vancouver, WA, Austin J of Oroville, CA and Leroy W of Rochester, NH, four sisters, Mrs E. O. CUNNINGHAM of Oakdale, Mrs B. F. ROBERTS of Neligh, Mrs C. A. WIEST of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Mrs W. A. ROSE of Ojai, California. He also leaves six grandchildren.

WILLIAM F STRINGFELLOW

Abridged: William F STRINGFELLOW was born near Centreville, Ohio August 7, 1877 and passed away March 22, 1926 at Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 48 years, 5 months and 15 days. At the age of seven he moved with his parents to Oakdale where he grew to manhood. In October 1906 he was married to Miss Marie THIELEN. To this union two sons were born Daryl and Wayne. He was engaged in the harness and hardware business with his brother, Irving. After selling the business in Oakdale, he went to Madison, Nebraska for a few years. Later he went to Atlantic, Iowa and owned a hardware store. He leaves to mourn him, his wife and two sons, his father, five brothers and four sisters; Mrs Jennie CUNNINGHAM, Irving and Clara of Oakdale, Mrs Ella ROBERTS of Neligh, Mrs Nannette WIEST of Eagle Grove, IA, Charles of Vancouver, Austin of Orville, CA, Leroy of Manchester, NH and Mrs Edna ROSE of Los Angeles. The funeral was conducted at the M. E. Church of Oakdale and the body was laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery, March 26, 1926.
