CORA B DURRE SUTTON

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Mrs Cora B DURRE SUTTON of Neligh, formerly of Oakdale, with the Rev. Willis TAPLIN of Tilden officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Romaine PETERSON, Vernon GO--, Bernard Kl--------, Elmer CARPENTER, Dilver HAUPTMANN and Vernon MCKAY serving as pallbearers. Mrs Cora B DURRE SUTTON, daughter of John and Josephine BOHAR, was born February 25, 1888 in Colfax County and died Monday, May 30, 1966, at the home north of Neligh from a heart condition at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 5 days. On February 13, 1907 she was married to Gus DURRE and to this union four children were born. They farmed in Stanton County until 1909 when they moved to Antelope County, where she spent the remainder of her life. Mrs SUTTON joined the Methodist Church at Oakdale in 1920 and was an active member until she moved to Neligh. She was a Royal Neighbor for many years. Survivors besides her son, Norman, are two daughters, Mrs Bernard TRENNEPOHL of Tilden and Mrs Pete PALLESEN of Ewing, six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Edward, her parents, three brothers, two sisters and two great grandchildren.

Jesse Ambrose SUTTON

Jesse Sutton, 67, of Neligh, old time resident of Oakdale and vicinity, died Sunday evening of pneumonia. Mr. Sutton was sheriff of Antelope County for twelve years and of recent years he had been city marshal at Neligh. His wife, stepson, Albert Sutton of Lincoln and one brother Will Sutton in California survive him. He was an uncle to Mrs. August Johnson and E. O. Tavener of Oakdale. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Neligh Wednesday afternoon and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Jesse Ambrose Sutton was born July 1, 1880, in Shelbyville, Indiana, to William N. Sutton and Sarah Meeks Sutton. He passed away Sunday night, February 8, 1948, at 10 o’clock after a brief illness, aged sixty-seven years, seven months and six days. He moved with his parents from Indiana when three years of age to settle on a homestead at Clearwater, Nebraska, in 1883. He moved again with his parents at the age of nine, settling at Oakdale. In 1910 he moved to Elgin where he was city marshal for four years. On April 5, 1914, he was united in marriage to Ella Robinson and it was in 1918 that they moved to Neligh.

Sarah E. MEIKA - SUTTON

Following an illness of several weeks Mrs. Sarah E. Sutton died Friday, December 17, 1920, at the home of her son, A. J. SUTTON, in Neligh, aged 81 years and 20 days. Mrs. Sutton went to Neligh to spend Thanksgiving and was taken sick shortly after her arrival, failing gradually until the end. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in this city Sunday afternoon (December 19, 1920). Sarah Elizabeth MEIKA was born in Shelby county, Indiana, November 27, 1839. She was the oldest girl in a family of twelve children. On October 30, 1864, she married William Ernest SUTTON and to them six children were born - Morton Ernest SUTTON of Chicago; Berta E. (SUTTON) TAVNER of Oakdale; Merritt Osmond SUTTON, dying in Omaha May 28, 1907; Mary Alice SUTTON dying in infancy; William Edward SUTTON of Los Angeles, Ca., Jesse Ambrose SUTTON of Neligh.

Abridged: William N SUTTON died at his home in Oakdale on April 24, 1902 at the age of 71 years. He leaves a wife and 4 grown sons and a married daughter. Will SUTTON, Merritt SUTTON, Mrs TAVENER of O’Neill, and Ernest SUTTON and Jesse SUTTON of Oregon. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday afternoon. The remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery.
