ERNEST O TAVENER

Monday, at the Methodist Church in Oakdale, funeral services were conducted for E. O. TAVENER, 62, who died August 29, 1956 at his home in Oakdale after a long illness. The Rev. Lester HART of Tilden and Oakdale officiated at the service. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. E. O. TAVENER was born February 21, 1894 to Mr and Mrs L. E. TAVENER at Clearwater. He became a member of the Methodist Church at an early age. Most of his life was spent at Oakdale as brakeman of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad, being promoted to conductor on December 24, 1920. He continued in that capacity until failing health forced his retirement several months ago. He was married to Mertice BRAINARD and four sons were born to this couple. Survivors include his wife and sons, Gene of Galveston, Texas, Carly of Omena, Michigan, BRAINARD of Norfolk, and Thomas of Seattle, one brother, Cecil of Fort Collins, Colorado, three sisters, Mrs August JOHNSON and Mrs L M GATES of Peru, Nebraska and Mrs Harold GLENNON of Caldwell, Idaho and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles E DEGAILLEZ, P. F. CARNEY, Paul HACKETT, Ray HOFFMAN, Kenneth VALZUARDSEN, and Earl HAINES. Honorary pallbearers were W. L. DOBNEY, H. L. HOSKINSON, W. H. RYAN, C. E. HOOD, Frank PATTERSON, L. J. LARSON, J. A. KUHN, and A. J. ALFSON.

BERTA ETHEL SUTTON. TAVENER

Abridged: After having been in poor health for a year Mrs L. E. Tavener last week suffered a physical and mental collapse and failed steadily until early Monday morning when the end came. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the M. E. church, Conducted by Rev. C. L. Myers, and interment was in the Oakdale cemetery. Berta Ethel SUTTON was born in Indianapolis, Ind., November 5, 1866, and with her parents came to Nebraska in 1881 and to Antelope county in 1883, residing on a farm southwest of Oakdale. On January 1, 1889, she was united in marriage to Leonard E. TAVENER of Clearwater. In 1902 they removed to O’Neill and 1904 came to Oakdale. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tavener, two dying in infancy and one daughter, Laura TAVENER, on May 26, 1918. Mr. Tavener died April 11, 1914. The surviving children are Mrs. August JOHNSON, Mrs. Fred SPRINGER, Cecil TAVENER and Helen TAVENER all of Oakdale; Mrs. LeRoy GATES, Chadron. The deceased is survived by 3 brothers, M. E. SUTTON of Chicago, Ill., W. E. SUTTON of Los Angeles, a., and J. A. SUTTON of Neligh.
