CHARLES JOHN WELBURN

Funeral services for Chas. Welburn, 71, were conducted at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. H. G. Langley, and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. Welburn died at Omaha Saturday after many weeks’ illness. He was a resident of this community for thirty-three years. Charles John WELBURN, eldest son of John and Jane WELBURN, was born October 21, 1872, at Boone, Iowa. His boyhood was spent near Ainsworth, Nebraska. In 1880 the family moved to Laurel, Nebraska, and in 1895 the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Edna WINGETT. To this union were born six children. In December 1903, they moved to the Oakdale community to make their home. The deceased was active in church work I the various communities in which he lived. He gained a wide circle of friends through his friendly and jovial manner. His wife and companion preceded him in death October 1932. Since 1936 the deceased had lived in Neligh, Nebraska, at the home of Mrs. Hannah Williams. Due to failing health he was taken to an Omaha hospital the latter part of November where he passed away February 5, 1944, at the age of seventy-one years, three months and fifteen days.

He leaves to mourn his death six children. They are Elmer WELBURN of Oakdale, Oliver WELBURN of Brighton, Colorado, Jasper WELBURN of Albion, Mrs. A. L. NORTON and Mrs. F. W. KESLEY, both of Omaha, and Mrs. W. P. BLAKESMITH, Daleville, Alabama. Also surviving him are a sister, Mrs. I. M. LYMANN of Canoe, British Columbia, a brother Samuel WELBURN of Talent, Oregon, and fourteen grandchildren.

ELMER LEROY WELBURN

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Elmer L WELBURN of Elgin with the Rev. Willis R TAPLIN of Tilden and the Rev. Lester ANDERSON of Stromsburg officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Otto Schindler, Clarence SHERMAN, Clarence COULTHARD, William GLAMPE, Orville SHERMAN and Merle WAGNER serving as pallbearers. Elmer Leroy WELBURN was born September 18, 1896 at Laurel and died July 11, 1964 at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 23 days. He attended school at Oakdale and graduated from the Oakdale High School in 1916. On May 26, 1920 he was married to Rebecca Laura STORY at Stanton and lived in the Oakdale and Elgin communities since. Mr WELBURN was a member of the Oakdale Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I, was a member of the Oakdale Odd Fellows LODGE and American Legion. He was active in the Elgin Masonic LODGE. Survivors are three sons, Lloyd of Newman Grove, Wayne of La Vegas, Nevada, and Lynn who is stationed at Norfolk, Virginia with the Coast Guard, four daughters, Mrs Corwin (Lois) EMMANS of Mullen, Mrs Joyce TAYLOR of Cody, Wyoming, Mrs Donald (Donna) PLEMING of Ralston and Mrs Maurice (Marilyn) NORTON of Louisville, 16 grandchildren, two brothers, Jasper of Fullerton and Oliver of Longmont,

Colorado, and four sisters, Mrs Art NORTON of Denver, Mrs Frank KELSEY of Omaha, and Mrs Jack BLEHSCHIDT of Torrington, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Laura.

MINNIE EDNA WINGETT WELBURN

Abridged: Minnie Edna WINGETT, wife of Charles J WELBURN of Oakdale and daughter of the late Oliver C and Mary M WINGETT of Orchard, was born on July 14, 1878 and passed away at Oakdale on October 2, 1932. Mr and Mrs WELBURN were united in marriage at Laurel October 16, 1895. To this union was born three sons and three daughters, all of whom, together with the husband, mourn the passing of a true devoted wife and loving mother. Mr and Mrs WELBURN first came to Oakdale twenty-nine years ago, at which time they identified themselves with the United Brethren Church. Through the twenty-nine years Mrs WELBURN was active in all religious movements of the Church, continuing in the faith unto the end. In the passing of Mrs WELBURN, a link of a long family chain has been severed. Her oldest sister, who now resides in Manteka, California, was born in 1871. Of the twelve brothers and sisters, but one death has occurred, that of a sister who passed away in April 1889. Mrs WELBURN’s friends were numbered by all who knew her, for to know her was to love her. She was never too busy or her load too heavy, but that she would gladly share the burden of her friends. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Rebecca Laura (STORY) WELBURN

Abridged: Funeral services were held Sunday at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Mrs Elmer Welburn who died February 13, 1958. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Rebecca Laura Story was born December 12, 1898 to Virginia and Claybourn Story near Excelsior Springs, Missouri. They moved near Ainsworth, NE when she was a small child and about 1914 came to Oakdale where she was graduated from high school in 1920. On May 26, 1920 she was married to Elmer L Welburn. To this union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters. They have always lived in the Oakdale community. Those surviving are her husband, one sister, Mrs Viola Whitesel, three brothers, Albert and Paul of Fresno, CA, and Earl of Council Bluffs, her children, Lloyd of Newman Grove, Mrs Corwin (Lois) Emmons of Mullen, Wayne of Alamo, NV, Mrs Bob (Joyce) Taylor of Cody, WY, Lynn, stationed at Norfolk, VA, Mrs Donald (Donna) Fleming of Omaha and Mrs Maurice (Marilyn) Norton of Munich, Germany, seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Mrs Cliff Lott.
