JESS C YATES

Funeral services for Jess C YATES, 80, were held at 11:00 AM Friday October 20 at the Church of Christ in Oakdale. The Rev Alvin SCHWARTING officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Tilden American Legion Post 170 and VFW Post 7603, who also provided military rites. He died in the Omaha Veterans Hospital on Tuesday October 17, 1995. YATES was born in Oakdale on January 18, 1915, the son of Jess C YATES Sr and Pearl (BILLINGS) YATES. He attended Clearwater high-school and was married to Edith Ina BUCK in Center on May 28, 1936. The couple lived in Antelope County where he was a carpenter. He served in the army during World War II. After his wife died in 1979, YATES moved to Alabama. He later lived in Texas for 15 months and in Howells from December 1990 until becoming a resident of the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk. Survivors include a son, Roger of Columbus, three daughters, Judy HECKLER of Pilger, Shirley SCHULTZ of Beemer and Kay DAVENPORT of Columbus, 12 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Willard, Dermont, and Donald, a son-in-law, Boyd HECKLER, a sister, Catherine ARBOGAST, and a great grandson. Services were conducted by Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home of Tilden.
