HARLAN COUNTY NEBRASKA QUERIES

WILSEY, BURKEY, January 2010

I have been researching the WILSEY family of Milford, Nebraska.  One member of that family was Jerman Lester WILSEY, who was my mother's brother.  I do not see the name listed in the name index for the county, but I know he and his family were in Republican City in 1900 (see the 1900 Census for Harlan County and Jerman Lester WILSEY in Republican City, Mullaly Township).  His wife was May Burkey and without positive proof I am wondering if she was related to the owner of Burkey's Hardware that is listed in the name index.  There were also Burkeys in Milford.

ACHEN, October 2009

I am researching the family of Ernest C Achen.  I find them in Harlen County in 1880.  Ernest and some of his family are buried in the Alma Cemetery.  He died in 1907.  George and Elizabeth had three Children, George W., Charles W. and Ralph.  The children were born in Illinois in Lake County.  I am wanting to correspond with descendants of this family.  Ernest was a brother to my gggrandfather John Achen and they immigrated to America through Hamburg via Quebec arriving in Milwaulkee.

HUNT, May 2007

Aurin B. HUNT and Lillie W. HUNT were husband and wife (my great grandparents).  I have been searching for obituaries for both.  The Alma paper announced his death and promised an obituary in the next week's paper but none ever materialized.  Since he died in Red Cloud I was hoping that perhaps there was an obituary there but no luck so far.  C. Blaine was their son.  I have his obituary.  I'm not sure why there was never a marker for him....he died in Colorado but obviously was buried with his parents.

GRAND LAKE, COLORADO & ALMA, NEBRASKA, Jan 2006

I'm working on the link between Grand Lake, Colorado and Alma, NE.

While doing some research at the Grand County CO courthouse I found where a John Griffin from Alma NE sold his cabin on Grand Lake to T. L. Porter also from Alma, NE in October of 1908. My grandparents, also from Alma purchased that same fall a lot on Grand Lake. Both summer cottages are still in their respective families. To my knowledge Porter was an atty and business man in Alma. My grandfather was a dentist but I have no information on the John Griffin family. I do have a photo of Mr. and Mrs. Griffin if that would help in any way.
