Was An Early Pioneer
Services Held Sunday At The United Presbyterian Church

The funeral of M. C. Bang, one of the oldest pioneers, was held from the United Presbyterian Church last Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Arthur Soundy conducting the service, assisted by the Rev. F. J. McConnelee.  Burial was made in the cemetery at Fredericksburg.

Mr. Bang was born at Thisted, Denmark, October 5, 1849, and came to America in 1872, landing at Montreal, Canada.  For two years he worked in the Michigan copper mines, moving to Plano, Illinois, in 1874, where he engaged in farming until 1880. At Plano on February 19, 1878, he was united in marriage with Maren Anderson.

Early in the spring of 1880, they moved to Kearney county, and settled on a homestead seven miles south of Minden, which they made their home until 1916, when they moved to Minden and have resided here since.

MICHAEL C. BANG
Mr. Bang passed away June 14, 1934, being 84 years, 8 months and 9 days of age. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and eight children, Mrs. Nora Rasmussen and Mrs. Elizabeth Brady, of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Emma Pierson, of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mrs. Sadie Anderson, of Minden; James E., William B., Alfred D., and Roy T. Bang, all of Minden, twenty four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many friends.  A son Andrew and a daughter Nina preceded him in death.

Mr. Bang was one of our most highly respected citizens, one who earned and had the trust and friendship of all who came in contact with him.  He came to this county when most of it was virgin soil, untouched by the plow, and had an important part in its development.  He had been here but four years when he was elected to the Board of Supervisors and he discharged the duties of that office so well that he was reelected four times, and then he served as County Assessor.  During the World War he was Food Administrator for Kearney county.

A tribute greater than any we could pay him was the attendance at his funeral, the church overflowed with the friends who came to pay their last respects, and the funeral cortege which followed his body to the grave was miles in length.

He was one of those fine citizens always ready to do his part in any public undertaking which he felt was worthy, and did that part with energy and wisdom.  He left a heritage of good example to everyone of us, enriching our lives by his presence among us for more than half a century.  Men such as he remain with us and influence our lives until we too, join him eternity.
