Pension List of Widows
of Revolutionary Soldiers

On July 4, 1836, the Congress approved an Act that granted the first pensions to Widows of Revolutionary Soldiers. On file in the Bureau of Pensions at Washington is an index to the pensions granted to widows under this Act, and under the later Acts of 1838, 1843, 1848 and 1853.

In some instances the widow had married a second time but received a pension on account of the service of her first husband.

The word "dec'd" denotes that the applicant had died prior to the issuance of the Certificate by the Government.

Information contained in brackets [ ] was added by the compiler (Chester Neville Jones) from data contained in the files of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey.

Information in braces { } I have added from the book Men from Morris County who Served in the American Revolution by Barbara Hoskins or other sources as noted. In some instances you will find minor discrepancies between the information. I make no claims, or opinions, as to which one is correct, but present the information here for you to make that determination through your own research.

Because of the size of the list, I have attempted to extract only those who were from Morris County. Needless to say there is no doubt that I may have missed a record.

BLWt. = Bounty Land Warrant
D.A.R. = Daughters of the American Revolution, and the lineage number
