Alestine Burris PITZER

submitted by Jim McCune

Alestine Burris Pitzer, daughter of Samuel M. Burris and Mary Jane Marquis Burris, was born Sept. 30th, 1861, departed this life Sept. 30th 1928, age 67 years, having fell asleep on the anniversary of her birth, Sept. 29, 1881.

She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Pitzer who survives her and with whom she lived for 47 years. To this union three children were born, Clarence, Clara and Archie. Clarence is now a partner in the Grant Highway garage, Georgetown, Ohio. Clara is now the wife of John Hise and resides in Columbus, Ohio, Archie follows the occupation of the father and resides on his own farm near Wallsburg, Ohio.

Besides the husband and children she leaves three uncles, Wilson Burris, Wapakoneta, Ohio; Nelson Marquis, Chicago, Ill. and James Marquis, Oklahoma state. One aunt, Millie Davis, Mt. Orab, Ohio; one brother, Cornelius Burris, Mt. Orab, Ohio; one half-brother, Jasper E. Burris, New York and six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn their loss. Three brothers, Johnathan, Emmet and Cyrus Burris; one sister Lydia W. Burris, two half-sisters, Ida May and Sallie Burris having preceded her to their eternal home. She also leaves the people of the entire neighborhood-her friends-for she was a tender-hearted good woman and merited the friendship of the entire community.

She united with the Christian church at Excelsior school house at the early age of thirteen under the pastorate of Rev. Tolle, later in the year 1890 the services at this place were discontinued and the services were held at White Oak valley where she attended, transferring her membership to Farmers Chapel upon its completion and dedication in the year 1892. She was one of the original members of this church and took an active part in providing means for this her new church home. Her early interest in this church and its success has stood the test of time and whenever her health permitted she gave God and her church her best efforts. She was a woman of sterling worth and possessed many valued characteristics, one of which outstanding was that of always being ready to see and praise the good qualities of those with whom she came in contact.

She was kind and charitable to friends and neighbors and will be sadly missed in this community where she has lived the greater part of her life. She was a faithful wife, mother and grandmother, their pleasures being hers regardless her own personal sacrifices and best efforts of her life was given to make her home a pleasant place where children and grandchildren found many happy hours on their frequent return home. For several years she has silently and uncomplainingly been a sufferer of rheumatism and the last attack having affected her heart and extended only over the short period of one week. We feel the deep loss of her passing but we believe our earthly loss to be her eternal gain and like one of old we say, the Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

"A mother's love, how sweet the name. What is a mother's love? A noble pure and heavenly flame enkindled from above to bless a heart of earthly mold the warmest love that can grow cold. This is a mother's love."

CARD OF THANKS We desire to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to out neighbors and friends who assisted us during the illness and death of our wife and mother; to those who furnished the beautiful floral pieces, to Rev.E. U. Dodson for his words of consolation, to the choir for their services and to Mr. Thompson the funeral director for his kindness and efficient services.
