Robert Berton Shaw Passed Away While In Service of Country From Congestion of Brain

James Berton Shaw was born at Dighton, Kansas, March 15, 1894 and departed this life at Eastwood, Ohio, April 9, 1918, aged 24 years and 25 days. He was called to his country's service October 3, 1917. He was in training at Camp Sherman and also Camp Sheridan from where owing to ill health he received an honorable discharge, February 12, 1918. His last illness, which was congestion of the brain, began at the home of his sister, Daisy Bishop, Eastwood, six weeks ago, during which time he suffered all that mortal could bear yet no one could have borne it with more patience and bravery. Almost up to the time of his death he was continually singing. His favorite hymn was "A Little While" and he sang it many times in his last illness.

His death is mourned by a father, James Shaw, of Linwood, Ohio, two sisters, Daisy G. Bishop, of Eastwood, and Ethel Foltz, of Cincinnati, three brothers, John L., of Oakley, Chas. E., of Delaware, and Walter L., who is now serving with the American troops in France; two brothers-in-law, four nieces and many other relatives and friends.

Soldier thy battles are o'er.
No more wilt thou shoulder thy gun.
You've joined the ranks up above.
Thy victory here is now won.
We mourn that you've gone from our midst.
But are comforted in his great love.
For we know the fruit of His hand
Is all garnered at last up above.

Funeral services by Rev. W. B. Brown. Interment at Taylor's cemetery.

News Democrat, Georgetown, Ohio, 2 May 1918, page 12, column 2.

His given name is James, not Robert.
