    Basically, I'm looking up any information regarding the Dearmond family around Louisville, KY. My grandfather Charles Dearmond (still living) was drafted into the Army during the Korean war.     My father was George Albert DeArmand. His father was Albert Alonzo DeArmand. His father was Milton DeArmond. My paternal grandmother changed the spelling of the last name. I have not been able to get past Milton. He married Mary EA Clough. her ancestors are elusive also. In an old bible it says she was an orphan.

    Because Betsy's death certificate listed no parents' names, I'm unable to locate who they were. I only know she was born in Nova Scotia about 1809 and came to the US. She married Ward Richmond and died in 1869 in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI

  • Pierre d'Armand de Chateauvieux circa 1400, Perhaps in Dauphine (Now Hautes-Alpes) . Charles William DeArmond (Jun 10, 2006)
    I strongly suspect that the Chateauvieux referenced in the family name is the small village by that name in the canton of Tallard. Tallard is in the departement of Hautes-Alpes, which was created after the revolution from northern Provence and southern Dauphine. You can find a map and even an image of Chateauvieux via links on this website . You will note a number of towns referenced in the early family records in close proximity to Chateauvieux. Unfortunately I'm going to have to set aside my attempts to verify this for awhile, but welcome any info or questions from the family on the possibility.

    I am researching Jane DeYarmond who married Thomas Spencer in Michigan about 1832. I am looking for both sets of parents.

    I found the following information in a book of Ionia County, Michigan: ".....Thomas and Jane (DeYarmond) Spencer, both natives of Nova Scotia, Canada, the former of whom was the grandson of an Irish immigrant who settled at Halifax and the latter of French and Scottish parentage, her father having been of French descent and her mother, who was a Fletcher, having been of Scottish descent. In 1831, Jane DeYarmond accompanied her father on a trip to the Territory of Michigan and was at Detroit for a year, at the end of which time they returned to Nova Scotia and presently returned to Michigan with a party which settled in Washtenaw county, not far from Ann Arbor. One of the members of this party was Thomas Spencer and not long after their arrival in this state he and Jane DeYarmond were united in marriage......."

    I also found this "Alexander, the third son of Alexander Deyarmond and Mary Barnhill, was born about the year 1766. He was married to Mary, daughter of the late Thomas Fletcher, of Masstown. They had four sons and five daughters."

    I need to know if Jane really is the daughter of Alexander DeYarmond and Mary Fletcher.

    Samuel DeArmond born 1800 from Ohio. I am pretty sure he was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth DeArmond. Samuel was married to Jershua Shaw also from Ohio. They moved to Sandcreek township in Decatur County, Indiana. Samuel was known as "Sandcreek Sam" He was a farmer. His children's names were: Thomas, Joseph, Nancy, Mary, James, and Sara. Joseph was my Great-Great-Grandfather. I have more information I would like to add to the website.

    I know very little of my family's past,Arthur James De Armond came to the Oklahoma area with his father and they got land in the Cherokee Strip land rush. Where they came from or what my great grandfathers name was I don't know. Arthur James De Armond married Mary Catherine Bullard on 18 Aug. of 1918, Arthur James died on 10 April 1962, they had 5 children, Delmar, Millie, Jessie, Harry and John. Delmar moved to Fresno, Ca., Millie and John lived in Wichita, Ks., Jessie stayed in Cherokee, Ok., and Harry moved to Coldwater, Ks. Only Delmar and John had sons, Delmar had two sons, Arthur and Donnie, John had one son, John.

    My Y chromosome markers are distinctively Northern Irish and Scot. I have gradually come to question whether any of the DeArmond/Deyermond variant surnames orginate from Huguenots, which a number of books blithley claim. Why is the name is missing from first hand records of Huguenot immigrants to Ireland? If you are, or know a male with a variant of the name, get a Y DNA test done to determine where the paternal line originated, and post the results.
