INTRODUCTION
This survey is intended to achieve a transcription of this cemetery's
markers as accurate as possible considering the condition of some of the
markers. The purpose being to preserve the record of these individuals before
further deterioration makes more markers unreadable and to save this information
for future generations.
Unfortunately, much information has already been
lost.
All names were recorded as inscribed on the marker without correction or
interpretation. Numerous older
markers were in Polish and dates were translated to English but no change was
made to the names as recorded on the marker.
Beside the names and dates, also recorded was relational words such as
"mother" or "son". Also, recorded
was military service data recorded on markers for some veterans.
This cemetery, situated on a hillside, was begun in 1908 and is divided
into five sections. The entry
pillars on the highway mark the division between the original sections,
Coronation and Annunciation. Both
are along the road with Coronation lying towards Adena. Both sections are rather small
with many markers missing and those there are somewhat irregular, but they have
been divided into rows as much as possible for the purposes of this survey. The rows in all sections run
perpendicular to the road.
Below Coronation and Annunciation lie Resurrection and Ascension sections
respectfully. The only
noticeable division between the first group and the second is that the markers
become more orderly. Row 1 of each
of all four of these sections is adjacent and parallel to the path between the
pillars. The newer St Joseph
section is separated from Ascension by an obvious "path" so that row 1 of St
Joseph section is next to row 7 of Ascension section.
I have generated this survey in two sections. The first is an alphabetical list. The last is a compilation of additional
names that were recorded during a less rigid survey taken in about 1981 by
others.
For those that may actually visit the cemetery, the location of the
marker can be found by the locational identifier which is the first column of
the listing. It can be interpreted
as such. The initial letter
indicates the section: C=Coronation, N=Annunciation, R=Resurrection, J=St
Joseph, and A=Ascension. The first
numeral indicates the row number.
The next two digits after the decimal indicates the markers position from
the top of the row. Where
applicable, the last lower case letter indicates that there is multiple names on
one marker. For example, J1.05
indicates that this marker is in St Joseph section, the first row and is the
fifth marker from the top of the row. A2.04b would be in Ascension
section, row 2, 4th marker from the top, 2nd name on a multi-name
marker.
One last convention must be mentioned. If a date is given as "----" this
means that there was nothing on the marker. This usually, but not exclusively,
occurs on the death date but there is no way to know with certainty how to
interpret this lack of information.
Is this person still alive, deceased but not recorded, or deceased and
buried elsewhere? If a date is
given as "????", the information is there but can't be read. This usually occurs on the older
stones.
From left to right, the information listed is: location; name and other
information; birth date or age; death date.

ADDITIONAL
NAMES
It seems that about 1981 an attempt was
made to map the cemetery. An actual
map was drawn showing individual plots.
Apparently this was accomplished by some combination of available
cemetery records and an on-cite survey.
Whereas, all the preceding information is directly from the actual
markers, the source of the following is not certain for any individual
record. No records existed for the
Coronation and Annunciation sections and no survey done either so the effort at
that time provided no information for those sections.
Unfortunately, the results indicate that
many plots are occupied but undocumented in any way. Fortunately, some additional information
can be extracted and included here.
Some of the mapping included plot ownership rather than occupancy and
will not be included here out a respect for privacy.
What is included here? Names appearing in the earlier survey
but not represented by markers in the current survey. Also included are spelling variations of
names that are recorded in previous chapters. These variations may represent
Americanization of names, misspellings, corrections of markers misspellings,
etc. No attempt will made to
explain or justify any of these variations.
Listed with these names is some manner of
locational data. Where an apparent
match exists, the marker name and location will be given. For completely new information
only a rough location can be given.
All of this is in order to both record otherwise lost data and to help
work through name changes. Often
it's not possible to determine if the marker or the map is the correct spelling,
if indeed either is. At the
minimum, now the researcher is aware of the need to check these variations.
This listing is alphabetical off the map names
