MRS. ELIZABETH SILVERS LAPPERT


Mrs. Elizabeth S. Lappert entered into rest at the home of her sister Mrs. Robert Lawson, at the cemetery gate on Market Street, Friday morning, September 10, 1913, at 4:15 o'clock after weary weeks of illness having been confined to her bed for thirteen weeks. She was a daughter of James and Sarah Silvers and was born in this county Jan. 14, 1876 and lived her life in this vicinity. She married Frank Lappert about twenty years ago and they lived their married life in Brilliant, this county, where he died thirteen years ago, leaving her with one young son Norman, who is now bereft of a devoted mothers care and love. She lost her health several years ago and during the past two years has made her home with her sister Mrs. Lawson, who had kindly ministering unto her until God called her and she calmly fell asleep to awaken beyond pain and suffering. She was a member of the Christian Church and was an active worker until incapacitated by ill health. She bore her long illness with the grace and patience of a child of God and has entered into the rest prepared for His children. She leaves to mourn her loss her only son Norman, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Silvers of thie county , and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Lawson, Mrs. Della Beaver of Columbus and Miss Georgia at home. Contributed by: Anna

FALLING LEAVES Alfred Lopeman Alfred Lopeman died at his residence on South Fourth street yesterday at eleven o'clock, in the 75th year of his age. Mr. Lopeman was born in Pennsylvania January 28th, 1806, he was married in 1832, and came to Steubenville about twenty-eight years ago. For some years past he has been too feeble to work, but until age came upon him, he was a most industrious man, having been employed in the nail mill for over twenty-five years. He was the father of thirteen children, nine of whom survive him. These are all married but two, and are living in various parts of the country. They are, Mrs. Mary Boggs, of New Brighton, Mrs. Sarah Burns, of Allegheny, Jefferson, of Martin's Ferry, Edward of Portsmouth, O, Mrs. Katherine Manley, of Red Oak, Iowa, Gabriel A. of Bellaire and Mrs. Rebecca Canby, Mrs. Ann Sweetland and Miss Emma living in this city. There are thirty-seven granchildren and one great grand child. Mrs. Lopeman still survives her husband. Mr. Lopeman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a man respected by all who knew him and trusted by his employers. He goes to rest after a long life, and his friends mourn but not without hope. The funeral took place at one o'clock, having been delayed two hours, waiting for the arrival of friends and relatives from distance. Rev. Theo. P Ebert was the officiating clergyman, and the pall bearers were Henry Schoenias, Henry Lucas, Sr., John Strott and Henry Noltemeier.

Steubenville Weekly Gazette, Monday, March 12, 1888

Mrs. Sarah Lopeman died at her home in the Sixth Ward Friday, aged seventy-six years, ten months and two days. She was the mother of thirteen children, eight of whom are living; Mrs. Mary Boggs of New Brighton, Pa; Edward of Belleview, Ohio; G.A., Bellaire; Catharine Manly, Red Oak, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah Burns, Allegheny; Mrs. Ann Sweetland, Steubenville; Mrs. Rebecca Canby, city, and Mrs. Emma Duncan, city. She had also thirty grandchildren. The funeral took place Sunday from St. John's Lutheran Church.

John Loyd


JOHN LOYD, a former resident of Georges Run, died Tuesday at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Cope of Canon City, Colo. Mr Loyd was born Oct. 6, 1875 in Mingo Junction, a son of the late Albert and Caroline Tarr Loyd. His wife Bessie Hukill Loyd and a son preceded him in death. Besides his sister-in-law, Mrs. Cope, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Frank Jackson of Eldersville, Pa. Contributed by: Anna



Emmett H. Lowmiller, 71, a native of Steubenville, died Sunday at Oakwood Village, Bedford, Ohio.

Mr. Lowmiller,a retired stationary engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad, had resided at Bedford for 17 years. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church at Northfield Center, Ohio.

The son of the late David and Mary Ann Purviance Lowmiller, he was born March 7, 1883, at Steubenville.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie Jackson Lowmiller; two sons, Louis E. and Emmett V. Lowmiller, both of Bedford, and a brother Ernest, and a sister Miss Clarinda Lowmiller of Wattsville Ohio.

Friends will be received at the McClave Funeral Home at Steubenville from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 2:30p.m. with the Rev. John Morrow of the Park Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Steubenville. Charles Lively


WELLSBURG - Charles Lively, 27, of Chestnut Heights, died at 4:50 a.m. today in Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville, where he had been a patient four days.

Mr. Lively was a U.S. Army veteran and was an employee of the East Steubenville Works of Wheeling Steel Corp.

He was born in Wellsburg, Oct. 25, 1928, a son of Mrs. Oleta Yost of Wellsburg and the late Lee Lively.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Lively; two children, Charles Thomas and Wanda Sue, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Yost of Chestnut Heights; three brothers, William Lively of Wellsburg, James Lively of Elizabeth, Pa., and Harry Lively; two half-brothers, Woodrow Miller and Gene Yost of Wellsburg, and a sister, Ethel. His father and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Chambers Funeral Home. Arrangments are incomplete.

Mrs. Mary Ann Lowmiller, 87, died early saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Dunlap, 1711 Rowland Avenue, N.E. Canton. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. Lowmiller till May of this year had lived with her son near Wattsville, Ohio.

Surviving are five children, Ernest, of the home; Mrs. John Barr, Steubenville; Mrs. Bertie Dunlap and Mrs. Clarinda Hale, both of Canton; and Emmett of Cleveland. A brother Samuel Purviance, Stockton, California; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian church.

Services for Mrs. Lowmiller will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dunlap, Tuesday evening at 8 pm. Rev, Dr. P.H. Weishimer, pastor of First Christian church, will officate. The body will be taken to Steubenvile Wednesday morning where services will be held in the Frst Cristian church at 2 pm. (taken January 3, 1928, from Steubenville Herald Star)

Nathan Lowmiller died at Wattsville, Carroll county on Saturday at 6:25 a.m., aged 48 years. He was a former reisident of Steubeville and hs remains were brought to the residence of J.H. Barr, 331 South Seventh Street. The deceased had been in poor health for six years and he had been gradually growing worse for the past three years, due to tuberculosis. He was born at Germano. While residng here he was employed at the electric light plant. He is survived by his mother, Mrs.Mary Ann Lowmiller, of Wattsville, Ohio, and these brothers and sisters, Ernest and Clarinda of Wattsville, Emmett of Wellsville, and Mrs.Birdie Dunlap of Canton. The deceased was an attendant of the Christian Church and an industrious and respected citizen. (Harold Star March 1, 1919)
