Obituary Steubenville Hearld Star March 17, 1942


Miss Eleanor Price, died suddenly due to a heart attack, on Monday at noon, at her home, 314 Virginia Avenue. She was born in Steubenville the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Coleman Price both deceased.

One sister survives, Mrs. Van Pettibone at Eldersville, PA. Two sisters and a brother are deceased, Mrs. E. S. Anderson, Mrs. Catherine Pettibone, Richard Price. These nieces and nephews survive, Mrs. Clyde Worley and Miss Catherine Anderson of Houston, Texas; Mrs. John Sperry, Miss Virginia Anderson and John P. Anderson of this city; Mrs. Ross Wolcott at Royal Oak, Michigan.

Miss Price was a member of the First Christian Church and the Ladies Aid of the church. Her death will be a matter of regret to many friends.

Entered into rest: Price: March 16, 1942 at 11:55 a.m., Miss Eleanor Price. Friends received at the McClave Funeral Home, 611 N. fourth St., where services will be held Thursday March 19 at 2 p.m. Interment in Union Cemetery

Her death occurred on April 22, 1912


Mrs. Mary A. Price ________ ______ _______ rest at her home, 309 Dock Street on Monday at 3:45 p.m., age 68 years on May 16, 1911. She was seized with paralysis one year ago and she had been in poor health ever since till one week ago when a second stroke caused her condition to be critical.

She was born at Toronto and was the daughter of Joel and Catherine Coleman, both deceased and she had resided in Steubenville since she was a child. She was the widow of Thomas Price, who died 11 years ago.

These children survive: Richard J., and Eleanor at home; Catherine C. Pettibone of New Castle; and Elmira E. Pettibone of Hanlin, PA; Mrs. E. S. Anderson and Mrs. Jane Hardy of Steubenville; also one sister and two brothers survive, George A. Coleman of Steubenville, W. J. Coleman of Los Angeles and Mrs. A. E. Hardy of San Francisco. The deceased was a member of St Paul's Church. She was noted for her kindly and self sacrificing ministration for the sick and she was held in high esteem in this community.

Richard Joel Price died April 11, 1935.


Richard J. Price, who was for years a millwright at Follansbee Mill, died Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at his home 314 Virginia Avenue. He had been in poor health for three years. He was born in Westmoreland County, PA, the son of Thomas B. and Mary Coleman Price, both deceased. On his paternal side his ancestry was English.

He had been a resident here for half a century. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Van Pettibon of Rea Station, PA, and Miss Eleanor Price at home.

He was a member of St. Paul's Church and the I.O.O.F. He was and industrious and respected resident of this city.

Friends received at the home, 314 Virginia Avenue. Funeral service in St.Paul's Church, Fourth and Adams Streets, Monday, April 15, 1935, at 2 p.m. Friends invited. Interment in Union Cemetery.

In the death of Thomas B. Price, which occurred at his home, 310 Madison Ave., Saturday morning at 4:30, one of the oldest English residents of the city passed away. He had been ill the past two years, confined to the house and the past six weeks had hovered between life and death. He was a coal miner by occupation but sever years ago a complication of infirmities of age, compelled him to give up active work. Mr. Price was born in Staffordshire, England, in 1830 and came to this country about 50 years ago, and after 5 years residence in the East came to this city where he since resided, and his long residence here gave him an extensive acquaintance. Before coming to this country he was married and of this union two children survive, Thomas Price of Denver, and Mrs. Jane Hardy of this city. After the death of his first wife he was married to Mary Ann Coleman in this city in 1860, who with the following children, survives: Kate, wife of John Pettibone of New Castle; Allie, wife of Van Pettibone of Mingo and Richard, Ellen and Annie at home. Mr. Price was and industrious and frugal citizen and for a great many years has been a member of St. Paul's church from whence his funeral will take place Monday.

The funeral of Thomas Price took place from St. Paul's Church this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. G. W. Hinkie conducting the services. The pall bearers were Thomas Bresttelie, Nathan Gibson, Van Pettibone, Harry Hardy, John Pettibone and Alex. Frazier.

Mrs. J. B. Priest, On Tuesday morning, July 4, 1911, there entered into rest at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Kleeberger, 1067 Fair Ave., Columbus, Ohio, one of the best of mothers, Mrs. J. B. Priest, Hannah Yocum was born at Steubenville, June 4, 1829. Was married to Dr. J. B. Priest, and went with him to New Martinsville, W. Va., where for about 25 years the doctor practiced his profession. Mrs. Priest was the mother of six children, one dying in infancy and one, Mary Frances, dying in 1877, one month after her graduation from high school in Steubenville. The remaining children are Sr. S.C. Priest, medical examiner B & O Railroad, Newark, O., George W., New Martinsville, W. Va., Mrs. Elizabeth Kleeberger, Columbus, O., and Walter Scott Priest, minister Central Church, Wichita, Kan. Mrs. Priest was a devout Christian, a self-sacrificing mother, gentle in spirit, modest and unassuming in character, and her children have entered into an inheritance which is above rubles. At the eventide, on July 4, in the presence of a few friends and members of the Broad Street Church, in Columbus, H. Newton Miller, the minister, conducted a simple, tender service, and the next day the body was taken to Steubenville and placed by the side that of her husband, who passed away in 1894. W. S. P (Rev. Obituary of Dr. John B. Priest

Steubenville Daily Gazette Monday 24 Sept. 1894


Dr. John B. Priest died at his residence 718 N. 5th St. Sunday night at 10 o'clock.  He was born at Wellsburg, Va. 21 Ap. 1821, and came to Steubenville in 1855,(I think that is a 55), and engaged in teaching in the North school building as it was then called, at the same time studying medicine with Dr. St.Claire, afterwards locating at New Martinsville, W.Va. where he practiced medicine for 23 years. He returned to Steubenville in 1874 and engaged in the drug business in connection w/ his profession until he lost his sight by cataract. 18 mo. ago he had a stroke of paralysis from which he only partially recovered and which was followed last June by a second stroke, after which he gradually declined until his death. He leaves wife & 4 living children: Dr.T.C.Priest of Newark, Rev. W.S.Priest of Denver; Geo. W.Priest, New Martinsville, W.Va. & Mrs.. Elizabeth Stephenson, widowed at home. 60 years ago He cast his lot with the religious reformation of Alexander Campbell and was ever after a consistent member of the Christian church, in all departments of which he took great interest. He was an Odd Fellow for 45 years and in politics a Democrat.

DIED PRIEST--Sept. 23 at 11p.m. of paralysis, Dr. John B. Priest, aged 73 yrs. Funeral from the residence, 718 N.Fifth St. at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25th Friends of the family invited.
