Welcome to the Jefferson County old time recipe page. I thought this to be a refreshing page when you need to take a break from research. I will be switching recipes every month or so as time permits.

Grab a cup of tea or coffee, sit down and share with the rest of the world
some of those recipes from your family that have traveled down through the years.

Busy Day Cake
3 cups sifted Cake flour (any kind will do)
4 tsp. Baking Powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3 eggs, well beaten
1 2/3 cups sugar
1/2 c. softened butter or other shortening
1 1/4 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, salt and sugar, and sift together three times. Add butter. Combine eggs, milk and vanilla, and add flour mixture, stirring until all flour is dampened. Then beat vigorously one minute. Bake in three greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven (375º F.) 25 minutes. Spread whatever frosting you desire between layers and on top and sides of cake.
